Bangladesh and Afghanistan will face off at The Rose Bowl today, as both sides are looking to secure a victory, but for different reasons. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:30pm (AEST).
Bangladesh have been solid throughout the 2019 World Cup thus far. They have secured two wins from six games, but they definitely have been in the majority of the games they have featured in.
It’s unlikely that they will progress to the knockout stages, but they won’t be giving up on their dream just yet.
Bangladesh are coming off a 48-run loss to Australia, but they definitely gave the reigning champions a game at Trent Bridge.
However, the reality is, Bangladesh leaked far too many runs, as Australia piled on 381 runs in the first innings.
Soumya Sarkar was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers, as he finished with figures of 3-58 off his eight overs.
When it came to the chase, Bangladesh finished the 50 overs with 333 runs on the board, which does show that if they had of bowled a bit tighter, they perhaps could have snatched this game.
Mushfiqur Rahim was brilliant, as he compiled an unbeaten 102 runs from 97 deliveries. Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah both scored half-centuries, also.
As for Afghanistan, they are also coming off a good game of cricket, which was played at The Rose Bowl. Despite having not won a game from the six fixtures they have been involved in, they gave India a contest.
They restricted India to 224 from 50 overs. All the bowlers chipped in, but it was Mohammad Nabi who was the best of them, as he finished with figures of 2-33 off his nine overs.
When it came to the chase, unfortunately for Afghanistan, they just fell short. They were bowled out for 213, which resulted in an 11-run defeat. Nabi was also the pick of Afghanistan’s batsmen, as he compiled 52 runs from 55 balls.
Prediction
Afghanistan will no doubt fancy their chances after giving India a scare, but Bangladesh should have too much quality in this game.
Bangladesh are also coming off a longer break, which should ensure they are the fresher of the two sides.
Bangladesh to prevail.

Solid performance from the Bangladeshis. Mushfiqur, Shaifudin, and so far, the player of the tournament, Shakib Al Hasan, were the stars for the Bangladeshis. They need to win their last two at all costs to end up in the semis. That New Zealand game might come back to bite them.

Bangladesh have defeated Afghanistan by 62 runs at The Rose Bowl to continue their push for a spot in the knockout stage of the 2019 World Cup. Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. The pitch right throughout the first innings proved a difficult wicket to bat on, as the ball was not coming on. Shakib Al Hasan was terrific again, as he compiled 51 runs from 69 deliveries. Mushfiqur Rahim was the pick of Bangladeshi batsmen, as he scored 83 runs from 87 balls. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was superb with the ball in hand for Afghanistan, as he finished with figures of 3-39 off his 10 overs. Gulbadin Naib was also decent, as he finished with figures of 2-56 off his 10 overs. Bangladesh set Afghanistan 263 runs to win the game, which was always going to be difficult to chase due to the pitch. Al Hasan not only made runs, but he also took 5-29 off his 10 overs, and he ultimately ensured Bangladesh secured a win. Afghanistan were bowled out 200 in 47 overs. Samiullah Shinwari was the pick of the Afghani batsmen, as he finished with an unbeaten 49 runs from 51 balls. Naib also made 47 runs from 75 deliveries. Bangladesh – 7/262 (50 overs) Afghanistan – 200 (47 overs)

Well. Bangladesh is banging on ENG's door. A loss to AUS tomorrow night and some likely wins by PAK & SL this week will have the English squirming come Sunday and their clash with IND.
