The Brisbane Heat are building a head of steam and will look to keep it going as they head back home to host the Sydney Thunder in the BBL. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:15pm (AEDT).
When the sides met just over just over a week ago in Western Sydney, it was the Heat who dominated the contest, before a highly unlikely Sydney Thunder run chase was shortened by rain.
On that occasion, the Heat came away with a crucial 15-run victory which helped to kick-start a busy period of the season for the franchise where they have been moderately successful, bringing themselves right back into the finals race.
The Heat struggled early in the season, but counting a win over the Perth Scorchers before this current stretch of five games in 12 days, the side have now won three of their last four and, after tonight and a match against the Sydney Sixers on the weekend, will enjoy a week off the park.
The victories have brought Brisbane up to sixth on the table, but they still have plenty to work on, with middle order batting still being their downfall. Unless runs come from Max Bryant, Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn, it’s been a struggle.
The Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, have been somewhat consistent, picking up four wins from their eight games.
After a strong start to the season, the loss to the Heat in that rain-shortened game has seemed to impact their momentum, although they were excellent on the weekend against the Adelaide Strikers, winning by 71 runs after reducing the defending champions to 97.
With Jos Buttler out of the side, their in-form batsmen are Jason Sangha and Shane Watson, while the key still lands in their bowling performance, particularly from short-form spinning specialist Fawad Ahmed.
Prediction
The Heat are at home and displaying some good signs. So long as their top order fire, they should pick up another crucial win over the Thunder, propelling them towards finals action in a month’s time.
Heat in a close one.

Why didn't they just send the fans home or pen them in one part of the stadium as the Englishwoman suggested.

As a side point, both teams net run rates are pretty much irrelevent now. Just need those wins

BBL has batflip in lieu of coin toss. Have they considered Rock Paper Scissors for abandoned games?

Before I go - the light tower has just come back on eight minutes after the cut off. Unbelievable.

I wonder if he would have been as annoyed if the last game they played was called off

Not sure what the exact rule is, but believe so.

Yeah. One rained out 5.3 overs into the chase and the other a power outage after 3. I mean, at least I got me some easier nights, but still not much fun to blog rain and power outages.

Well, thanks for joining me this evening on The Roar for our live coverage of the 2018-19 Big Bash League season. Hopefully you enjoyed the call. Big day of cricket tomorrow. Lachlan Ballingall will have the third ODI between Australia and India for you from 1:20pm (AEDT), while Sarah Wildy will have the Big Bash League between the Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes from 9:30pm (AEDT). Outside of cricket, I'll be up with Ashleigh Barty, Alex De Minaur vs Rafael Nadal and Kimberly Birrell in the Australian Open. Speaking of the tennis, why not flick over now and join David Holden as he covers the big second-round match between Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga? Bye for now.

Yep - the Heat were never winning that in a billion years from the position they were in.

MATCH ABANDONED Frustrating scenes have seen Match 33 of the 2018-19 Big Bash League season called off due to a floodlight failure at the Gabba. The Brisbane Heat were in all sorts of bother when the floodlights failed due to a power failure which has put the whole of Eastern Brisbane into darkness on this Thursday evening. Having just three overs completed of their run chase, Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn were already back in the sheds, leaving them at 2 for 10, chasing a monumental target of 186 which was set up by a Shane Watson century. The first century to scored in this year's Big Bash League, Watson batted most of the innings for the Thunder, but it could have been a different story with Max Bryant dropping Watson when he was just on 33. Other cameo performances from Anton Devcich during the powerplay, and Chris Green alongside Daniel Sams late in the innings, ensured they got to a score which was always going to be hard to chase down. In the end, it was just two overs short of a constituted game, with the floodlights unable to come back on in the Queensland capital, completing a frustrating last hour for the visitors. Sydney Thunder: 4/186 (20) Brisbane Heat: 2/10 (3)

Shane Watson looks like he is ready to deck someone, but that's the end of it. The match has been called off in Brisbane.
