Hobart Hurricanes take on the Sydney Thunder in the 11th game of the Big Bash League this season, with the Bellerive Oval in Hobart to play hosts. The game will begin at 7:15pm local time and you can follow it live with The Roar below.

It’s a battle for the top spot this early in the competition with both the Hurricanes and Thunder having won both their opening two encounters.

A win for either side will make them the first to get to three from three and give them an early lead in the race to the finals, although this season it is more a marathon battle than a sprint to get there given the number of matches for each team during the league stage has increased to 14 each.

The Hurricanes started off with a 15-run win over Brisbane Heat but the manner of their victory over the Melbourne Stars will even enthuse them even more.

A bowling attack consisting of Jofra Archer, James Faulkner and part-timer D’Arcy Short restricted the Stars to 155 after it looked like a score of 170 was on the cards. They restricted the opposition to just 36 runs from the last 34 balls before chasing the target down easily in the end.

Captain Matthew Wade scored a half-century with Short chipping in with 34 off his own to grab another man-of-the-match award – he now has the most in BBL since his debut.

The Thunder have a batting that could test some of the best in the business, what with the likes of Jos Buttler, Shane Watson, Joe Root and Callum Ferguson forming the core of their batting and both Jason Sangha and Daniel Sams possessing the ability to do a job of their own.

That said, in their game against the cross-town rivals Sixers, it was their bowling that bailed them out.

Finishing on 9/169 from their 20 overs, the Thunder might have fallen a few runs short but Sams and Fawad Ahmed shared six wickets between them to ensure the Sixers were never in the hunt. And despite some late-order heroics from Tom Curran they fell 21 runs short.

This was after the Thunder won their first encounter, a rain-affected one, 15 runs. Batting first, they made 5/181 leaving the Stars to score 89 from their eight overs.

Again, much like the game against the Sixers, the Thunder bowling carved apart the top-order and while Nick Larkin smashed a 13-ball 28, the Stars fell way short.

Prediction
Thunder to go to top of the table with their third successive win.

How can the outfield get quicker if its wet?

Matthew Wade will be my choice for man-of-the-match, he was extremely sensational with his batting, smashing 85 off 49. He was also involved in a 120-run stand for the first wicket after Jos Buttler had led Thunder to 6/193 with his 89. Unfortunately, with conditions becoming wetter as the game progressed, the outfield becoming quicker and quicker, it became tougher for the bowlers and the Hurricanes completed third win. The only team this season with three wins from three games. That's that from me, will now be back in the New Year. Have a good one!

Watto doesn’t appear the brightest tool in the shed

No-ball called for height again. And they get a single too to make it two needed off five. Off the next ball, Milenko finishes off the chase with a four down the ground. Hobart Hurricanes have won the match by seven wickets in dewy conditions.

This 'death' bowling has been some horrific stuff.

Why Watto decided to give him a fourth when his first three were so expensive I'll never understand.

Just four more to win Bailey to take strike. This partnership has been worth 22 from seven balls and Milenko is yet to face a ball! Rainbird will take over the final over.

Bailey hits the fifth ball straight to the long-off fielder and still comes back for the second. The fielder was slightly wider and they run really quickly. Well done. A single off the final ball. In the meantime, Sams has completed his 50, 54 from his four overs. Four needed off six.

And a repeat of that shot gets him a four. Wide, full and Bailey manages to get some bat on it, somehow, and crashes it through the backward point region for a four. Seven needed off eight.

Wide outside the off and Bailey has to actually dive to get close to it, gets an outside edge that goes over the short third-man fielder forr a couple. 11 needed from nine.

Gone, run-out? Nope, inside the crease and gets two, Bailey. Slashed over the covers and Bailey rushes back for the second. 13 needed off 10.

No-ball. Poor stuff from Sams, not been his night as he delivers a over-waist high full-toss that has been dispatched for a six. That should be that. 11 runs off 1 ball in this over. 15 needed off 11.

Good start to the over with Bailey smashing Sams through extra-cover for a four. 22 needed off 11.

What was looking like an easy chase has turned around with just one over from Rainbird. Four runs off it with both set batsmen gone. 26 needed from 12 now.

Gone! Whoa, McDermott is bowled! What a ball, what an over. Yorker and bowled, goes through the pads. Both well-set batsmen have to make their way back.

Matthew Wade out! c. Root b. Rainbird scoring 85 (49) for Hobart Hurricanes

Gone! Caught! Wade falls... ...again wide and full and Wade goes for a slash, loses control of his bat and it goes straight to third-man where it's caught. End of a brilliant knock of 85 (does it help his international selection in any way?) 28 needed from 16.

Sam Rainbird starts things off with a wide half-volley that gets smacked for a couple of runs. 28 needed off 17.

Shot, four. Sams has come on and Wade's smashed him down the ground for a four. And follows it up with a pull off a slower ball that has been dispatched between the two fielders deep on the leg-side. Single next ball and then Ben comes to the party too with a swing across the line for another SIX! This was after Ben got just a single off the first two balls. 16 from the over. 30 needed from 18.
