India face Afghanistan in Match 28 of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:30pm (AEST).

India are not only looking at the two points from this game, but will also want to considerably improve their net run rate against World Cup minnows, Afghanistan.

In 2014, India beat their opponents today by eight wickets but the two sides did play out a tie in Dubai last year. This World Cup has not gone well for Afghanistan who are still looking for their first point of the tournament after five straight losses.

It is unlikely they will take any share of the spoils here. Virat Kohli would like to get his India side into bat first and put up a huge total. However big scores at the Hampshire Bowl have been hard to come by at this World Cup.

Afghanistan bowler Rashid Kahn will hope to avoid the clobbering he took from England at Old Trafford – 110 off his nine overs was not a good look.

Watch out for Mohd Shami who looks set to make his first start in this World Cup. The India quick will be looking to prove a point against Afghanistan’s top order.

And following some doubts over Vijay Shankar’s fitness, he seemed to be match-ready for India after going through a fitness test on Friday.

Thankfully there are no doubts about the weather for this match. The skies are expected to stay clear and dry for Saturday in the South of England.

Prediction
A routine victory for India.

Ideally, i think india wanted to use jadeja, just as a substitute fielder, than get him in the 11 ,as he was made out to be a permanent sub, when anyone wants to leave the field. Bhuvi's bowling all rounder like package(usually a good fielder too) along with his 2019 form(best year of his odi career) meant him edging shami could be worthwhile, it also allowed kul-chal combo to be persisted with. But with kuldeep form gone missing so far and with off spinners doing so well, picking jadeja might be the right move.(Though i might be tempted to pick kuldeep against eng, if india wins the next match against windies and their qualification to semis is secured). Happy for shami too, knew about his strike rate, was my fav bowler in the current crop of indian bowlers,as he was india's best bowler, till bumrah emerged, but never got recognized as the leader of the attack.

Yeah, and about Jadeja. He is a gun fielder. Arguably one of the best fielders in the world. Saves you 20 runs in the field. Shami, is deceptively quick and his action is quite smooth. He has one of the best ODI bowling strike rates of all time as well.

If he can continue this form, pretty sure the team management would be tempted to persist with him, even after bhuvi returns. Given that makes the batting dept a bit weaker, i would think they would also consider replacing kuldeep for jadeja as well. Strangely, except tahir and chahal the rest of the wrist spinners haven't had a huge impact this tournament.

Shami is underrated. He is so good and goes under the radar a bit. A hat trick at the end of the game to save India from embarrassment. A tense game and Afghanistan almost pulled off one of the greatest World Cup upsets of all time.

Excuse me sir, who is being negative about everything? A truth is truth regardless of you like it or not. Pandya is a finisher who can not finish. If there was one chance he could prove himself against a good bowling attack yesterday was it. Except one match against Australia, he has been below par. Yes we have won it, 2 points to us. But hello, we were playing against Afghanistan. It was another match where we have struggled against slow bowling after Australia series. We are in England to win the trophy. We have to take lessons and improve our performance. I found your nonsense unhelpful and irrelevant for discussion of cricket. Whatever i post is none of your business. Different point of view is more than accepted in respectable manner. Stay the hell out with you personal garbage.

Afghanistan has top spinners (Mujeeb, Nabi, Rashid) in this world cup, that suited this kind off pitch, all the teams would have struggled playing against them on this wicket. Cricket maybe the only sport where 22 yards decides what sort of game we get. When bowlers get on top, games are usually very interesting. It was a very good game and teams who come out of these kinda of pressure matches will feel satisfied. Indian bowlers won that game with low total, usually there batsman do that. Kohli should be happy that they got a game like this before knockouts.

how are u so negative about everything. It was a tough wicket, everyone struggled, it was a good game, enjoy. Pandya has done remarkably well in this wc, he has contributed in either department in all the games. I guess u need to stop posting gibberish going forward.

I have no beef with pandya. I do not like carrying baggage for nothing. Pandya is not doing anything for team at the moment. Pandya is no where near Brathwaite. He is a smasher of part time spin bowlers who was exposed against best spin bowling cartel yesterday. I donno whom you are pointing to as fanatics, I do not like fanatically support anyone too. I thought you are Indian because of your name hence I replied.

I dunno what’s your beef with Pandya is but I wouldn’t mind having him in this team..He is capable of a “Brathwaite” with the bat..Although he kind of did a Pandya himself with his bowling.(barring the freebies he gave to set Afghans on track). It’s just a game for me unlike fanatics…I am an Indian fan but for the betterment of Cricket,I was praying for an AFG&WI win.
