It’s day two of the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Australia aim to fight back against India after a below-average day one. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3pm (AEDT).
After a rocky start within the opening ten minutes of day one, Australia recovered well to get to 2/84. But from there, it was all India.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin showed why they are borderline unplayable on the subcontinent, taking eight wickets together as the Aussies were bowled out for 177.
With the ball, Australia were poor bar some promising signs by debutant Todd Murphy, who dismissed KL Rahul late on day one, with India finising the day just 100 runs behind with nine wickets in hand.
Rohit Sharma showed that this pitch is not as unplayable as it was perceived prior to the Test. The Indian skipper will start day two on 56 not out and look to take the hosts to a huge first innings score.
He will be happy with his bowlers’ efforts, but the first session of day two could bring Australia back into the game.
There’s no doubt that day one was the worst day of Pat Cummins’ captaincy, and bad days do happen. But how the Aussies respond with the ball is key if they want to stay with a chance in this Test, let alone the series.
India is the toughest place to tour for one reason – the hosts have plenty of patience at home.
If the Aussies don’t pick up any wickets early, they need to ensure they keep the scoreboard pressure on. If not, this Test will get ugly quickly.

I know what you mean but I wouldn't call that a sitter. Fast and low to the inside of the keeper after a long long day in the field. Still I bloody wish he's caught the damn thing

Depends on which tangent I'm on. I'm going thru a Sophie Marceau / Rachel McAdams phase now.

STUMPS DAY TWO - India 7/321: leading by 144 runs Australia battled hard, but fatigue hit them late on day two as the Indian are well and truly in the drivers seat to win the 2023 BGT opener. Lovely knock from skipper Rohit, while all rounders Jadeja and Axar led the way with the bat to extend the lead. Huge shoutout to Murphy for his five fer on debut, and I’m pleased my constant calls for him to be capped soon in Test cricket paid off. Thank you everyone for tuning in on what has been a testing day for Australia. I’ll be calling the rest of the days of this Test as well. Take care and goodnight

Aaaargh! Smith wasn't ready or in position for that. Oh well, looks pretty grim anyway. Thanks for the call Arnab. Evening all.
