The BBL continues tonight when the Adelaide Strikers travel to Marvel Stadium in Docklands to take on the Melbourne Renegades. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match starting at 7:10pm (AEDT).

It’s a little too early to call this match season-defining for the Melbourne Renegades, but after three losses from as many games, the defending champions need to win tonight to get their season back on track. To do that, they will need to beat the Adelaide Strikers, who are yet to taste defeat this season.

The Renegades have not been that far away from victory in their first three games, but being bowled out inside the 20 overs against the Hobart Hurricanes was telling. Their key batsmen Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh have both made scores at the top of the order but not gone on to make a big one. Their middle order has largely misfired.

Their bowling line-up has been below par as well. The Renegades have relied heavily on Kane Richardson, with Harry Gurney and Cameron Boyce struggling for consistency.

The Strikers, on the other hand, have enjoyed a strong start to the season. They will be still pinching themselves after Friday night’s win against the Melbourne Stars, where great death bowling by Peter Siddle secured an unlikely victory.

They do have a strong attack, led by Billy Stanlake and Rashid Khan. Wes Agar is also a lot quicker than most of us gave him credit for.

In the batting stakes, Jake Weatherald is in terrific form and the Renegades will need to get him early. Alex Carey and Jon Wells have provided a consistency in the middle order that the Renegades so far have lacked.

Prediction
If this game was at the Adelaide Oval, it would be impossible to go past the Strikers.

But it’s not. It’s at Marvel Stadium where the Renegades haven’t played this season. It’s also the place where they built a fortress last season on the way to becoming champions.

With the stakes so high for the Melbourrne team, I’m tipping the Renegades to get home, just.

Renegades to win by ten runs or two wickets.

MATCH REPORT The Melbourne Renegades season is officially on life support after a disappointing 18 run loss to the Adelaide Strikers tonight. Phil Salt started brilliantly for the Strikers hitting 7 boundaries and one six in his 26 ball 54 runs. After his departure, the Renegades turned the screws through some tight bowling from Cameron Boyce. Alex Carey worked hard for 41 runs at just over a run a ball whilst Rashid Khan's 25 runs at the end of the innings was exactly what was required as the Strikers set a target of 156 runs. With a very slow outfield, it was a par score from the Strikers. The Renegades started reasonably slowly scoring only 38 balls from the Power Play. Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch took the score to 71 runs off 10 overs and the Renegades were seemingly taking control. Rashid Khan then struck a huge blow with the bowling of Shaun Marsh. Still, the Renegades looked the more likely winner until two run outs and poor shot selection from Marcus Harris resulted in 3 wickets in the 12th over. Aaron Finch made a classy 50 but his run out was anything but. He was ball watching and his brain fade put plenty of pressure on the lower order. Beau Webster made an unbeaten 36no but some great death bowling from Wes Agar and Cameron Valente led to the relatively comfortable win. Rashid Khan was again brilliant with 2/15 off his 4 overs. On the back of this result, the Adelaide Strikers take their spot at the top of the table after successive wins over both Melbourne teams, both wins due to the Strikers' strength under pressure. It's still early in the BBL season, but the manner of the defeat will concern the Renegades. With Aaron Finch not far from the one day series against India, the odds are now stacked against them successful defending their title.

Umpire who wants to be the star of the show. After the pathetic attempt at humour he displayed trying to explain his antics it’s pretty obvious he was wanting some attention. They gave him his wish with an interview but I certainly hope his career is back in the Park Cricket grounds from here on. A player got banned for producing the team list? This bloke was playing games that could have seriously affected the outcome of a match?

No, it has to strike the pad in line with the stumps. It can't pitch outside leg stump but it can pitch outside off. If a player isn't attempting a shot, it can strike the pad outside off stump, but not outside leg.

WICKET. Boyce has tried to give himself room and a well directed yorker has knocked his stumps over. Boyce departs for 10 and Kane Richardson will face the next ball
