The BBL continues tonight when the Perth Scorchers travel to Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium to take on the Melbourne Renegades. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match starting at 7:10pm AEDT.

These two sides are arguably the biggest disappointments of BBL|09. Even the most loyal of Renegades fans would be putting a line through their season after six straight losses. The Scorchers are in marginally better shape but, realistically, a further loss tonight would likely end their chances of a semi-final appearance.

The Renegades’ largest problem is that they don’t have too much batting depth after Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh. While both these batsmen have averaged in the 30s, neither has gone to make a matchwinning score.

From a bowling perspective, Kane Richardson has shouldered much of the load, with Harry Gurney and Richard Gleeson performing well below expectation.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Renegades, with Aaron Finch about to travel to India as part of the Australian one-day squad.

The Scorchers have similar batting problems to the Renegades, where Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Bancroft have scored 50s this season but no-one has gone to make a big score.

From a bowling perspective, the Scorchers are in better shape. Jhye Richardson is returning to his best, while both Chris Jordan and Fawad Ahmed have taken eight wickets in the competition.

Prediction
With the Renegades’ season likely over, the Perth Scorchers simply have more to play for. I think they have more bowlers capable of taking wickets, and while the Renegades will want to win in front of their home fans, the Perth Scorchers will keep their season alive.

Perth Scorchers by 20 runs or five wickets.

The Renegades next play the Adelaide Strikers in an afternoon fixture at Adelaide Oval. It would take a miracle now for them to make the finals

The Scorchers move to 3 wins on the back of tonight and are outside the top 5 only on percentage. They next take on the Brisbane Heat back in Perth in what is likely to be a pivotal clash

Liam Livingstone and Josh Inglis have played big roles in chasing down a good Melbourne Renegades target. Both openers hit 50's at strike rates in excess of 150 and the Renegades were chasing their tail from there on. Bancroft hit a measured 24 no to get the Scorchers home
