Australia will continue in the middle on Day 2 of the second Test after bowling Pakistan out for 282 on Day 1. Join The Roar for live coverage from 5:00pm (AEDT).

Pakistan won the toss for the second game in a row and again chose to bat, sending the Australians into the familiar position of bowling first.

It was a different story to the first Test, though, as Australia bowled the hosts out for 282 runs with a half hour still to play yesterday.

Nathan Lyon tore through the Pakistani batting order in the first session, taking four wickets in just six balls.

Marnus Labuschagne finished with three scalps from his 12 overs, while pacemen Mitchell Starc (two wickets) and Mitchell Marsh (one) rounded out the wicket-takers. Labuschagne was involved in plenty for Australia, including a juggling effort at short leg off Mitchell Starc’s bowling to help snare the all-important first wicket.

Fakhar Zaman and Sarfraz Ahmed top-scored for Pakistan with 94 runs each, and a knock of 28 by Yasir Shah in the lower order was the next best.

Three Pakistani middle-order batsmen fell for ducks during the Lyon-inspired collapse.

There were seven overs left in the day’s play when Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja headed out to the middle for Australia.

Khawaja was caught behind, strangled down the leg-side for three runs, and Peter Siddle came in as nightwatchman with under three overs left in the day.

Off the final ball of the day, a review by Pakistan ended Siddle’s contribution, the Victorian given out LBW, and the tourists finished at stumps with the score 2-20.

There’s a lot of batting for Australia to do on Day 2, while Pakistan will be plotting to steamroll right through with quick wickets as they did during the first innings of the last Test.

Join The Roar for live coverage of all the action on Day 2 of the second Test from 5:00pm (AEDT).

Australia loses a cheat, a grub and a nobody. Like that shouldn't alter things too much right? They are seriously getting flogged. Anyways can't say I feel sorry Australian cricket.

This is the worst Australian team I have seen in over 50 years of following the game...worse than that of the Packer era before reconciliation, and some of those that played in the mid-1980s. And I put it down to the administration's love affair with that 20/20 crap, plus money. More emphasis needs to be put on Shield cricket and its promotion.

Definitely wouldn't be dropping Head after that fantastic 72 he made in the previous Test, that was a knock of real guts and skill. That's earned him more than just 2 Tests to prove himself. I'd give Head at least the first 2 Tests of the series against India, regardless of how he goes in the second dig here.

Australia clearly need Smith back. Batting looks very fragile without him and Warner although very much Doubt DW will be back. But looking at that pitch I am seriously sceptical of miracle 2.

So, not a great day for Australia, Pakistan are well placed after dominating today's play and we'll be back on The Roar for Day 3 coverage tomorrow from 5:00pm AEDT. Scott will be back for Day 3 and 4 I believe, and if Australia can last until Day 5 I'll be on The Roar blogging the second cricket miracle in as many weeks!

STUMPS Wow, what a day. Shocking effort with the bat from Australia, bowled out for 145. They were absolutely dominated by Pakistan today, the Pakistani bowlers were simply brilliant - great rotations, field placements, it all worked for them really. Again the Marsh brothers failed to fire, Head was unlucky on the end of a good ball by Abbas and caught in the slips, while Labuschagne topped off the bad day with an absolute brain-fade, failing to ground his bat, run out by the bowler for 25. Mohammad Abbas took five wickets, the pace troubling the Australian batsmen today. Lyon bowled well this afternoon, but only took the one wicket (caught and bowled) - Starc took the other, caught by Head. The Pakistani batsmen, frontlined by Fakhar Zaman (66) and Azhar Ali (54*), showed this can be a batting pitch and is not as bad as the Australian batsmen were making it out to be. Zaman became the first Pakistani to score a 50 in each innings on debut - a great effort! Over: 44 Pakistan 2/144

STUMPS Lyon with what should be the final over for the day... bowls to Sohail, who looks to defend, but misses it. 1 run off the next delivery, outside edge bounced away to first slip. Another two dot balls from Lyon, Azhar the batsman just defends it and then one run taken off the final ball of the day. That'll be stumps on Day 2 of the 2nd Test. Over: 44 Pakistan 2/144

Holland to Azhar, he takes two off it with a nudge to the gap on leg side. Good running to take two there. Azhar then defends the following five balls, the last of which appears to hit his pad - Paine, Holland and the Aussies go up for LBW! Here's a way to waste some time... A review! Clearly pad first, ball tracking says hitting, but the impact was umpires call as it was past three metres. Slightly disappointing for the Aussies. 5 minutes left, can the Aussie's stretch this out for one over or will they be forced to bowl two? Over: 43 Pakistan 2/142

Big shout by Paine for caught behind off the first ball of Lyon's over, Lyon's convinced, the umpire is not. Three dot balls to begin the over, then a single by Sohail, tapped to midwicket. Azhar defends the following ball, a full one at off stump. A single to finish, Azhar will keep the strike.. facing Holland. Over: 42 Pakistan 2/140

Holland continues from the other end, Azhar defends all six again and no runs are scored. 3 overs remain, or until 5pm local time. Over: 41 Pakistan 2/138

So Finch and Khawaja should be the only members of the top 6 guaranteed a spot for the Adelaide test, Renshaw should probably join them. That leaves at least 3 spots in the top 6 up for grabs, unfortunately Maxwell probably won’t play shield cricket until the 27th November, 1 week before the 1st test.

Lyon nudged to square leg off the first delivery, no run. Then bowls too straight for the second and is nudged fine, past the keeper for two runs. Two dot balls, then Azhar drives against the turn past cover for two runs. Azhar finishes the over with a single from a misfield, and brings up his 50! 5 runs off the over. 4 overs left to play, Pakistan lead by 275. Over: 40 Pakistan 2/138

Lyon bowling to Azhar, no run off the first. Azhar takes two off the second with a flick off his pads to midwicket. Otherwise dot balls to close out the over. 6 overs left, Pakistan lead by 270 runs. Over: 38 Pakistan 2/133

Just one run off Holland's over, Azhar with a cover drive through the fielder at deep. 7 overs left in the day, gee a late wicket for Australia would be nice and keep things interesting out here. Over: 37 Pakistan 2/131

Ball one of Lyon's over, he gets an edge off Sohail's bat, but it doesn't carry to Finch, the slip fielder. Two balls later, another good delivery by Lyon, gets the shot up in the air again - this time Sohail toe-ends it and it's sliced just above Starc's finger tips - another 'almost' opportunity for the Australians. 3 runs are taken. 4 runs off it. Over: 36 Pakistan 2/130

A big shout for LBW on the second ball of Holland's over, Paine has a quick chat with Holland and they decide not to go upstairs and review it. Just two singles off that over. Over: 35 Pakistan 2/126

Holland continues to the Pakistani batsmen, who are building a nice little partnership. Holland not as clean this over, Azhar picks up a single with a cut past square off the first delivery. Sohail takes another single, nudging the ball off his pads to square leg. Azhar then goes to deep point for a single. The drive to mid on off the fourth delivery is not worth a run, but the next ball is - cut square to deep point. Dot to finish. Over: 33 Pakistan 2/124
