The Perth Scorchers will aim to flip the script on their struggling Big Bash League season when they return home for a clash with the Sydney Sixers in the late Sunday game. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 9:35pm (AEDT).

It’s fair to say the Scorchers season thus far has been nothing short of a disaster.

Even halfway through the eighth instalment of the competition, there is a very real danger that unless the Scorchers are almost perfect from here on out, they will miss the final four for the first time in franchise history.

As it stands currently, the Scorchers sit bottom of the table with just two wins from their seven games. Taking from the principle of about eight wins to make the finals, they may well need to win six of their last seven to make the semi-finals.

While they managed to turn their horrendous form around four days ago with a crucial win over the Melbourne Stars on the road, things aren’t about to get any easier with Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff and Mitchell Marsh all out to international duty, leaving the squad youthful and inexperienced.

On the other side of the coin, the Sixers have exceeded expectations this season. Widely tipped to finish at the bottom of the table come the end of the season, they have picked up some big wins with lesser lights standing up to do the damage.

The form of Jordan Silk and Daniel Hughes with the back has been phenomenal, while the attack has stood up when it’s needed to, and Moises Henriques has led the way well.

They are going to need more if they harbour ambitions of winning the competition, but still, the signs are positive for the men in magenta.

Winning four of their seven games, the Sixers sit in fourth spot on the ladder and pulled off a shock win over the Adelaide Strikers, so will enter this one with plenty of confidence.

Prediction
The Scorchers are weakened by their international players being out, but also will be desperate for a win. At home and against a Sixers side, who, while shooting above expectations, don’t look anything too tough to handle on paper, the Scorchers should pick up a crucial victory.

I am a huge fan of Lyon, he is best finger spinner right now in test cricket, but he is no ODI asset IMHO. I hope agar & Turner would be given a chance.

Bancroft is hitting them very sweetly at the moment. I don't like a rat or a snitch, but he is hitting them well.

PERTH SCORCHERS DEFEAT SYDNEY SIXERS BY 7 WICKETS WITH 7 BALLS TO SPARE A staggering run chase from the Perth Scorchers, led by Cameron Bancroft and an overly aggressive Ashton Turner, has allowed them to keep their Big Bash Season alive with a seven-wicket victory over the Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium. Winning the bat flip and electing to bowl, the Scorchers looked to be in some trouble as the Sixers ran up 187. While the Sixers didn't have any individual stars with the bat, they had contributions all the way down the list as Moises Henriques led the way with 38, before Josh Philippe finished with a flourish and ensured the score got up to the daunting figure. In reply though, Cameron Bancroft never looked daunted as he batted the whole 20 overs. By the end of the powerplay, Perth had lost Michael Klinger on the seventh ball of a controversially miscounted over, but had 59 on the board. Sam Whiteman departed soon after, but then it was Bancroft and Turner, who ended up 60 from just 30 balls, putting on 98 as a partnership in just 10.2 overs to win the game for the Scorchers. Sydney Sixers: 5/177 (20) Perth Scorchers: 3/178 (18.5)

FOUR - END OF MATCH Bancroft will finish 87 not out as he backs away and slaps another four over the cover, putting the game away with seven balls to spare and keeping the Scorchers' season alive in the process. What a chase. Over: 18.5 Scorchers: 3/178 Target: 178

Shorter this time. Bancroft backs away, cuts it over the infield and then comes charging back for a second once more. Bancroft is 83, the Scorchers needing just 4 from 8. Over: 18.4 Scorchers: 3/174 Target: 178

FOUR Full and just outside the off stump now. Bancroft backs away now, picking up the line and length early, placing a cover drive into the gap which races away. Over: 18.3 Scorchers: 3/172 Target: 178

Curran goes full at Cartwright, but just like Bancroft, he is able to jam it out to mid off and take a quick single. 10 from 10 required now. Over: 18.2 Scorchers: 3/168 Target: 178

Curran with his final over now. Starts slow, full and it's a single to mid off for Bancroft. Over: 18.1 Scorchers: 3/167 Target: 178

WICKET! Ashton Turner, Caught Jordan Silk, Bowled Sean Abbott 60 (30) Gone! Big wicket of Turner, but is it a case of too little, too late for the Sixers this time? Turner went to go bit to a full one, but skied it with Silk making a great catch on the run, diving into it. Over: 17.4 Scorchers: 3/163 Target: 178

Bancroft backs away again here. Abbott follows him and it'll just be a single to Silk at mid wicket this time. Over: 17.3 Scorchers: 2/162 Target: 178

FOUR Short from Abbott. Didn't take much pace off the ball and Bancroft backs away, slapping it into the gap over extra cover and away to the fence. Over: 17.2 Scorchers: 2/161 Target: 178
