Reigning T20 world champions the West Indies are out for atonement following their humiliating loss to England when they take on a South Africa outfit also searching for their first win of the tournament. Join The Roar for live scores from 9pm (AEDT).
The Windies’ 2016 World Cup final rematch against England on Saturday couldn’t have gone worse. Bundled out for 55 amid a string of ugly shots, the batting was described as ‘brainless’ by commentator Nasser Hussain, and not without cause.
However, West Indies cricket is mercurial by nature, and there’s every chance a similar approach just one game later could result in the sort of blitzkrieg that has taken them to a world record two T20 World Cup crowns. Whether they stick with this gung-ho attitude or try to rein themselves in against the Proteas will make for fascinating viewing.
The Proteas also head in off a defeat, though their own poor score of 118 against Australia was very nearly defended by an outstanding bowling and fielding performance. Led by spin twins Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj, plus a brutal spell from the lightning-quick Anrich Nortje and some classic catches, South Africa will know that if they can put a score on the board, they’ll be hard to beat.
However, that will be easier said than done: only Aiden Markram managed a successful innings against the Aussies, with the rest of the top order all going cheaply. If a Quinton de Kock or captain Temba Bavuma can find some form, the Proteas are every chance of recovering to threaten the semi-finals: but a loss here would all but put them out of contention already.

First time I've seen the straight hit on the circle ploy. I guess the strategy is to bowl wide and full but I can't believe it worked

Good delivery from Nortje. But more so a poor shot from Russell; all at sea.

Why would you want to get Simmons out?
