Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka commences with the first of three Twenty 20 matches. Join The Roar for live scores from 11:30pm AEST.
When Twenty20 cricket first arrived the Australian team treated it as a bit of hit and giggle. The Aussies played catch up for a long time to get back on par with international sides but now Australia is the top of the pile after winning last year’s World Cup. They get to defend their title later this year on home soil and this is where the campaign starts with three matches to test themselves against Sri Lanka.
Captain Aaron Finch had all the pressure on his shoulders in Pakistan but he managed a half-century in Lahore and he’ll hope that innings turns his fortunes around after going 13 innings without a 50 prior to that.
He’s also indicated a much more aggressive gameplan for at least some of his players with Steve Smith given a license to slog from ball one.
Smith was sensationally overlooked for a T20 contract in the IPL and while he’s much more suited to accumulation in the longer formats his funky strokeplay is not to be messed with.
“I‘m pretty excited that tag’s been taken off, to be honest with you,” Smith told cricket.com.au.
“Diva (stand-in coach Michael di Venuto) actually told me the other day … he said ‘we’re getting rid of that tag, that’s gone. Just go out and play freely. If you want to smack your first or second ball for six, go for it’.
“And I’m like, ‘yeah, that’s cool’.
Kane Richardson is the other one to watch this series after he replaced Pat Cummins who is resting for the rest of the Tour.

Pillock? Child? What kind of lowlife are you?

It certainly wasn't terrible deployment of bowlers you pillock. I'll just explain it once like you're a child - which is not all that far from the truth They have four front line bowlers. That's 16 overs. You need another 4 overs from the part timers. When do you want to bowl them? At the death. That's why Marsh and Maxwell - part timers - were bowled early Ffs sake Don it happens in every single t20

It was a terrible deployment of bowlers early. If he's going to give the ball to batsmen, why doesn't he let Kane Richardson and Hazle open the batting?

Finch was superb Don another victory & a 100 odd partnership with his mate Warner :stoked:

Unable to watch this on TV here and not interested enough to pay to stream. I’ve checked in on line to follow. Looks like a good bowling/fielding effort by our blokes. Should be a simple chase (touch wood)
