It’s sudden death tonight when the Sydney Thunder take on the Adelaide Strikers at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:15pm (AEDT).
The Thunder start their finals series tonight after finishing third in the regular season. They did have somewhat of a form slump late, losing to the Hurricanes and Sixers before recording a win over the Renegades.
Sam Billings has been difficult to replace for Sydney, however Usman Khawaja could be the answer. Khawaja scored 77 against the Renegades and single-handedly got them to a competitive score.
Alex Hales has had some good knocks recently while Jason Sangha has been one of the players of the tournament.
On the bowling front, Daniel Sams’ variety has picked up 19 wickets for the Thunder. Together with Tanveer Sangha, they are the key to keeping the opposition to chase-able totals.
After the Eliminator on Friday night, the Strikers have won five in a row and are playing with great confidence. Although the final margin was only 20 runs, the Hurricanes never really looked in the game.
Alex Carey looked right at home opening up again, with his partner Matt Short being one of the finds of the tournament. With Travis Head, Ian Cockbain and Matt Renshaw in the middle of the order, their batting order has depth.
The loss of Rashid Khan was tough for the Strikers but Fawad Ahmed has done a terrific job since coming into the team.
Peter Siddle is currently the Golden Arm and looks unassailable at the moment. Hales will be looking to get at Short, who will bowl in the power play.
Prediction
Momentum is everything in sport and the Strikers are riding high right now. Carey and Head have added some real stability to Adelaide’s batting order.
The Thunder have a number of game breakers among them, including Khawaja, Hales and Sams. This is seriously a toss of the coin.
I’m leaning slightly towards Adelaide, who will move through to the final three.
Adelaide Strikers by ten runs or two wickets.

He shouldn't have mishit it. Only himself to blame. Ussie is being quite petulant about this. It's an umpire's decision and nothing (apart from barracking) to say it should be overturned.

I find the commentary about Ian Cockbain (on 7) interesting. They always mention he was plucked out of Melbourne suburban cricket, but have they ever mentioned that he is also a very experienced English county cricketer? There's definitely a narrative there, and they're sticking to it.

The Adelaide train keeps rolling along with a tight win against the Thunder. Conway and Siddle bowled well under pressure. The Strikers now move to the SCG and they have a real chance of beating an undermanned Sixers team
