The JLT Cup heads to Perth with Western Australia set to take on New South Wales. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 4pm (AEST).
The Warriors come into the tournament as one of the favourites to take it out, and with home ground advantage for the first few of their matches, they will have their eyes set on a top-two finish and easier run through the finals.
While Cameron Bancroft is suspended and the Marsh brothers are off to play for Australia in the United Arab Emirates, they have plenty of players who will look to use this tournament to push for inclusion in Australia’s squad to play South Africa in an upcoming limited overs series.
Their attack is shaping up as the strongest in the competition, with Andrew Tye, Joel Paris, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jhye Richardson, who may have unlucky not to travel to the UAE.
Playing in Perth, they will be hoping for a green top to run with an attack of four quicks, to go alongside all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and D’Arcy Short, who will almost certainly open the batting.
The duo will lead the batting attack, with Hilton Cartwright, captain Ashton Turner and Jonathan Wells also chipping in. Ashton Agar will also be part of the side for the first two games of the tournament.
The Blues, on the other hand, have named what, on paper at least, looks like a pretty weak squad. At this stage, the balance looks a little out and very short on batting.
Former Test keeper Peter Nevill and Kurtis Patterson will need to stand up with the stick if they are to challenge the Warriors bowling outfit, while Moises Henriques and Daniel Hughes will also have roles to play.
With the ball, Trent Copeland will need to keep things tight, while Daniel Sams could also find himself with a role to play. The Blues need to keep themselves close to the top so that they are in a position to strike later in the tournament should they get Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins back in the fold.
Youngster Jason Sangha will also be one to keep an eye on, should he get a run. Heralded as one of the best youngsters in the country, Sangha became the second youngest player to score a century against England last summer in a tour match playing for the Cricket Australia XI.
Prediction
Western Australia are one of the undoubted tournament favourites and should come away with a pretty convincing win here over a weakened New South Wales squad.
Warriors in a canter.

Who will they drop for Short and Stoinis? Only Wells didn't do a lot. And the 13 sundries gave the Blues their 200

Stoinis and Short will indeed help.

Very much enjoyed that. It's a particularly young and inexperienced team as well. Turner looked in imperious touch, I'm hoping for a very big Shield season from him.

They got them in 32 overs. Turner was ill and still hammered 70no. Green is a genuine batsman, Richardson and Paris are good batsmen who can easily crank out half centuries. NCN adds to the tail as well. Stoinis and Short were injured. That was impressive.

WA aren't looking like favourites to me after that performance. Turner needs to be batting much higher in the order. Once Agar leaves their batting looks thin. NSW look to be in a rebuilding phase.

Ha, I'll be doing the NRL friday and then... Not sure. Won't be doing the AFL, but I'll either be on the cricket or having a (very) rare weekend off.

Good win in the end. Hard to learn much about each side. Both top orders have work to do but not unusual this time of year. But wow Ian Healy is woefully out his depth now. Junior just tore him apart all night.

Well, it wasn't all straight forward for the Warriors with a regular loss of wickets in their innings, but Ashton Turner and Ashton Agar eventually teamed up to get them over the line with a big partnership. New South Wales will be disappointed with that. A lot of poor shots in their innings, with only a Daniel Sams 60 getting them to a somewhat competitive score, but they then dropped catches and struggled to play well in the field, allowing the Warriors to get there with ease in the end. The Warriors also win it with a bonus point. The Blues will now take on South Australia on Thursday, while Western Australia will play the Redbacks on Saturday both in Perth before the teams head back to Sydney and Melbourne for the rest of the tournament.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA WIN BY 4 WICKETS O'Keefe to continue. He goes with a flat, faster one and Green jams it out to third man. The second is driven back down the ground, beats the fielder at mid on and that will be the end of that. Green hits the winning runs as a boundary and Western Australia win it with a bonus point. Western Australia 6/206 (32.2) New South Wales 10/204 (43.4)

Slower half volley from Sams now. Lovely shot from Green as he pushes it through the covers for three. Three to win now. Western Australia 6/202 (32) New South Wales 10/204 (43.4)

Turner pushes the next to cover, then backs away to a wide yorker, getting a single to the sweeper on the cover fence. Western Australia 6/199 (31.5) New South Wales 10/204 (43.4)

Short and wide from Sams as he pushes it across Green. He cuts off the outside half of the bat to third man for a single. Western Australia 6/198 (31.3) New South Wales 10/204 (43.4)
