Fake crowd noise returns to cricket 86 years after its debut

The England vs West Indies Test Matches will have fake crowd noise in the broadcast as the UK continues to fight against COVID-19. With no crowds it’s going to sound a lot like 1934 when the ABC’s famous synthetic radio broadcasts first entertained audiences.

I loved listening to this old news reel footage till it dawned on me, Alan McGilvray was doing it wrong. He was telling the audience what shot was being played, THEN using the pencil to mimic bat hitting ball, rather than the other way around.
