The just finished NSW Qld game illustrates how this bonus point approach could lead to an undeserved result - NSW was way behind in the game when rain ended it but had scored a handful more runs in bonus point time than Qld and so would have won the Shield. Mimicking test cricket was a strong point of the Shield final - bonus points don't help that.
Good morning Rellum. The only downside in the “points system” being used in the Shield final is if one team has edged ahead after both first innings are completed, there is no incentive for them to force a result. I recall Victoria scoring a massive first innings total at the MCG against Queensland a few years ago & the new rule is designed to perhaps discourage similar lengthy innings however I enjoyed Queensland’s 6-900 against the same opponents a few years later & that game actually produced a result on the last day. Similar to the NRL, any rule changes may have loopholes & consequences that were not considered at the time. Queensland to win!
I hope I can get out to a day at the final. Sweppo has been Warne like for most of the season so maybe a little turn on the last couple of days might be nice Mr Curator.
Given the recent and predicted Briz weather, the only time they'll put on their whites will be for the team photo.
And btw, until Tests are decided by bonus points CA should drop the idiotic doing so in the Shield final.
Shield final Queensland v NSW at AB field confirmed. Since the introduction of Shield finals in the early 80’s, Queensland has played NSW quite a few times without success although they came within one wicket of victory in 1985 & 2005. Time to rectify that. There are some people who may be unaware that if the game is drawn, the bonus points system used in the regular rounds will apply to decide a winner. CA introduced this measure a couple years ago to ensure the home team didn’t just have to draw to win the game. Go the mighty Bulls!

I was going to say I thought they should just use the same rules as last season to decide the winner.

Could be worse JB. The Shield could be awarded without the scheduled Final being played...

The forecasts I have seen for the 15th to the 19th look pretty good so far

Sweppo is tearing it up today. High quality bowling. Back to to the form from before his injury after the first innings warm up.
