Poor Pistol couldn’t do much about this one… not that Slats seemed to care!

A tenth of a second to react. Harsh call by Slats.

About 7 years ago, I was on crutches for a week after a big burly batsman’s straight drive collected the inside of my left foot as I was trying to jump out of the way. I saw out the game as this was during the chasing side’s innings and they were only about 20 minutes from victory. However, by the time I had driven the hour to my house afterwards, I simply could no longer stand on that foot, let alone walk or even hobble. I had to ditch my own manual car and borrow my mother’s automatic for the following week so I could go to work because, being my left foot that was injured, I simply could not push the clutch in.

You've always got time to move when it doesn't deflect off the stumps - but you never have time to react after it does. Poor old Pistol. There's a reason Slats was never a popular member of the squad, didn't care about anyone not called Michael Slater.
