The penultimate match of Round 15 sees the New Zealand Warriors come up against the Penrith Panthers for the second time this season. Join The Roar from 2pm (AEST) for live scores and coverage.

The start of the season looked promising for The Warriors, yet they find themselves down in tenth heading into the round after some patchy form. They are however coming off the back of a four-point win over the Titans before the Origin break.

Penrith meanwhile were turning a corner winning their last four matches in a row before the Origin break. Including a pair of single point giant-killings against both The Roosters and The Rabbitohs. Those wins though saw Nathan Cleary feature heavily, who will miss this clash.

Last time these teams met was in round 10. It was also the last time Penrith lost, with the Warriors running away 30-10 victors at Panthers Stadium on that occasion, with young centre Patrick Herbert finishing with an impressive 7/7 kicking record and a try of his own.

Both sides have been forced into making changes. The Wariors will be without second rower Tohu Harris, who came off late in the win against The Titans, and will be replaced with Jazz Tevaga. Nathaniel Roache returns from injury and Leivaha Pulu joins the squad at the expense of Isaac Luke and Lachlan Burr.

Penrith will be without Nathan Cleary after he injured his ankle in NSW’s Origin win. Cleary has been cleared of syndesmosis damage, but he will still miss a few weeks. Cleary’s omission calls for a mini re-shuffle, with James Maloney moving from 5/8th to halfback, Jarome Luai coming into the 58th, and Hame Sele returning to the squad on the bench.

Prediction
Panthers are in form, but they are missing Cleary. Warriors are at home, but they are missing Harris. This is really tough to predict. A lot of Penrith’s success will depend on how Maloney has pulled up after Origin, and if he can play as well in the 7 as he has in the 6. Either way, it should be close.

Warriors by 4.

Report: In a match where all seemed to go against Penrith, they still managed to come away with the win. Their third 1 point win in a row. The first try of the match came just 5 minutes in. NZ’s Peta Hiku crossing in the left corner. Patrick Herbert would take the conversion, but he would push his kick across to the right of the goal. James Tamou would equalise with a reaching try beneath the posts. The easy kick for James Maloney to convert would see them take the lead. Karl Lawton crossed for the Warriors soon after, but his try would be rubbed out after it was deemed Adam Blair did not make an effort to get out of the way after playing the ball, and remained an obstruction. Herbert equalised through a penalty goal with 10 minutes left in the half. With 5 minutes left in the half, Liam Martin was sent to the bin after Penrith committed multiple penalties. Warriors took immediate advantage of the extra man, with Bunty Afoa scoring, and Herbert converting to go in to the break with a 6 point lead. 2 minutes into the second half, Penrith would be down to 11 men on the pitch. Jarome Luai sent to the bin for committing a professional foul. Again, Warriors would take immediate advantage, with David Fusitu’a crossing in the corner. The Bunker had a look at the grounding, and confirmed the try. Camera angles shown after the fact revealed Fusitu’a’s hand had gone into touch. Herbert would miss the conversion. Brent Naden would have a try taken off him after he failed to ground it properly, however he would score 2 more. 1 of which included a line break and a 90 metre run. Maloney converted both of Naden’s tries to give them a 2 point lead with 2 minutes to go. Warriors were awarded a penalty, and elected to take the 2. Herbert scored to level the scores and send the match to golden point. In golden point, both Maloney and Blake Green would miss one field goal attempt each. Before Maloney successfully sent one through to give Penrith the win. That result pushes the Warriors to 12th, while the Panthers jump them into 11th.

I can see the appeal of it. I can also see the hate for it. In finals, it probably is the best method for finding a winner where one needs to be found. But for season matches, to do anything other than leave it as a draw seems like a very "American sports" solution.

Fake news? If you couldn't see what the replay clearly showed and ALL of the FOX Sports commentary team unanimously agreed on, that Fusitu'a's non-ball carrying hand went into touch BEFORE the ball was grounded short of the line, then... you should have gone to Specsavers!

Should have been a "DRAW" are you listening NRL??? Don't think so!!! These conclusions to close matches are a joke with golden points!!!

it's the win mentality... and supposed excitement.. Most people seem to hate it though, you have to wonder why it's still in.

Well done Panthers! Justice in the end. This game would have been a travesty if the result had gone the other way.

Nathan Cleary would have been a handy second option for field goal in golden point. First mistake loses!
