Round 9 of the NRL gets underway tonight when the South Sydney Rabbitohs host the Melbourne Storm at Stadium Australia. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEST).

These two sides kicked off the NRL season almost two months ago, with the Rabbits unable to recover from an early game onslaught from the Storm.

Much has happened since then, with both the Rabbits and the Storm announcing themselves as legitimate title contenders again.

The loss to the Storm has been the Rabbits’ only loss all season, with pre season predictions of premiership winners seemingly not that far off the mark.

Despite a late flurry from the Raiders, Wayne Bennett’s men ran out well deserved winners in Canberra last Thursday night, with a number of key players on the sidelines. Their injury problems only worsen this week.

Adam Reynolds’ thumb injury was not as bad as first feared but he will still miss this game.

Benji Marshall takes over at seven, with Cody Walker moving back to six. Alex Johnston goes to fullback with Braiden Burns replacing the injured Campbell Graham at centre.

Jaxson Paulo is out with a wrist injury, so the two new wingers are Steven Marsters and Taane Milne.

Tevita Tatola makes his way back into the team following a head knock with Jai Arrow moving to lock to cover the loss of Cameron Murray.

The Storm sit only one win behind the Rabbits and would move ahead of them following a win, given a superior points differential.

This game is shaping up as one that could have real ramifications on the ladder later in the year.

Melbourne were off their game last week in the first half against the Sharks, but blew Cronulla off the park in the second 40. They will need to be better this week against South Sydney.

Melbourne’s team takes on a much more settled appearance, with Nelson Asofa-Solomona and George Jennings both returning from head knocks.

The race for hooker appears over, with Harry Grant named there and Brandon Smith at lock.

Prediction
There are a lot of match ups to look forward to tonight, with Damien Cook versus Harry Grant perhaps the best of all.

The Rabbits have continued their winning ways despite some injuries and the suspension of Latrell Mitchell. However, the loss of Adam Reynolds is too large a loss when up against a big finals contender.

There won’t be much in this, but the Storm will take it out.

Melbourne Storm by 6.

Game of the year. Very entertaining. Souths were in the game, right up to full time.

WT%#%, Only a grade 1, fair dinkum, he led with shoulder and made heavy contact, knocked him senseless, what’s more it was the crackdown area, where they player is hit after releasing the ball and unsighted. No way of defending themselves. Should have been 2-3 weeks for sure.

Take 8 players out of any side including 4 players with Origin rep experience and another in the extended NSW squad (Graham) and that would manifest deficiencies in any side where previously there was none. Don't read too much into one game and a seriously understrength Rabbitohs side.

Souths aren't a top four side. Too many defensive deficiencies.

If I was a Souths fan (perish the thought) I wouldn't give up hope. Remember Parra put 40-0 on the Storm last year.

What are you on about? You made a political comment and then took offence to a different opinion. To say Australia can’t be in the same position as India, then think Sweden are smart? Now I’m a child abuser? Pull your head in. Seriously you should talk to someone about your problems. Vote 1 Anna is what the vast majority voted north of the border and it would appear you live with Glady anyway. Stick to football because you’re carrying on like a goose IMO.

Wow, I didn't see the game live, but have just watched the lowlights. That missed / non-attempted tackle on Hughes after Munster stripped Cook was just awful. How does he make eye contact with Wayne bennett after that? Can't be picked next week.

JAC goes to the top of the try scoring table with that effort. Equal first 11 tries with B.Morris.

This has been the most complete performance by the Storm this year... Against a Rabbitohs side with 8 players missing Joe including 5 key players Latrell Mitchell, Adam Reynolds, Cameron Murray, Campbell Graham and Josh Mansour. That's 4 current or former NSW Origin players and a player in the extended NSW Origin squad. Let's not get carried away mate. Of course, it was a complete performance against an utter rabble that were leaderless, directionless and couldn't hold onto the ball. When Souths get their full team back let's see what happens next time they play the Storm.

Words that would get my profile terminated if I indulged myself and expressed how I really feel. How's that? :silly:

Apparently there is no humour in Adelaide. No comprehension of a rhetorical statement. And no shopping after 5pm. Lights out. Everyone in bed.

The Roosters were missing plenty when they played Melbourne in Melbourne. They also had Radley sin binned and were down to a one man bench by the end of the game. The issue tonight’s was South’s terrible attitude. not that they were missing some players.

"but only converting 5 of 10 tries is dreadful" My heart bleeds... Lucky they didn't end up with a big fat ZERO on the scoreboard isn't it champ? Well, at least it wasn't 60-8 against a full strength Roosters side!

Against the utterly imperfect Bunnies. Souths had 8 players missing Crow. I'd love to know how the Storm would go against a full strength Souths with 8 players, including 5 key players missing.
