Not that I've been to a game for a while, living overseas, but before they returned to a single ref you'd notice 1 ref had a different 10 metres to the other, often favouring 1 team. 1 ref would stand back 12 metres or more but the other ref stood a proper 10 metres. So often certain teams always had the bigger 10 metres and I was always annoyed that the commentators didn't seem to notice. Regardless, the fans would call for offside because the defenders would be in front of the ref but still 11 metres back. but even now, like you said, half the time several players would be offside and it only gets called occasionally. On the goal line there's always 3 or 4 players standing in front of the line but it's a lottery for the penalty.

With COVID and the dogs struggling I haven’t been to an NRL game for a while, but seeing it live showed what a mess the ten metres and it’s officiating is In the first half the dogs kicked into the corner and so were pumped to keep the Dragons down there. It was the situation where the defence knows who’s getting it and they only have one way to go, so they were racing up. But they weren’t particularly offside, but Sutton gave two consecutive six agains. It was like he’d premeditated the calls But then we had large tracts of the game where the defence is clearly standing offside and leaving early and there’s no call because it’s happening in the middle of the field. The defence is on the ball carrier before he crosses the advantage line. I’m sure on the telecast it looks like “good line speed”. It’s not, it’s blokes standing two metres offside If you were going to yell “get em onside” every time a defence was offside you’d have no voice left at the end of the game. The refs are very selective when they blow six agains for offside, let alone using the blinking sinbin…

Most confounding was the replay that showed the entire Bulldogs line, including Jackson, easily 10 metres back. shocking call

I just don’t get that call… Dragons gave away six set restart to three in the first half and 8-3 overall and gave away six penalties to three The Dragons gave away three restarts in quick succession while defending their line towards the end of the first half, two in successive tackles and no bin…?
