Fair enough penalty try. But a bit more consistency would be nice. In second half Bird held back Niukore while Ferguson had the ball held out in a tackle waiting for Niukore to run onto it five metres out from the line with only Ramsey (a speed bump for Niukore) to beat. Probably not a penalty try - but definitely a penalty and sin bin for professional foul. Refs decision? Play on...
As a parra fan I still say Penalty try every day of the week. Dufty was in front of Brown and would have avoided the post if Brown hadn't interfered, simple really. At the time I was thinking that Brown should have just attempted to stay shoulder to shoulder with him, which is allowed, and perhaps he would have been stopped by the post any way. At the end of the day it was a stupid play from Brown that he never recovered from throughout the game.
Brown was behind Dufty, it was not possible to pull him inside the posts. To do that he would have to be in line with him. I thought it was going to be a sin bin but as a Dragons fan I’m happy with the video ref ruling.
The Parramatta player grabs Dufty's shorts with his left hand and pulls turning him around so he is heading towards the upright. Dufty is then trying to avoid a collision with a big unmoveable object so it was at least a sin bin. The video ref thought it would've been a try as he was the closest to the ball.

DCE didn't get a penalty try out of it. There's no question its a penalty, but if he doesn't dive after he's run towards the posts there's no way they get rewarded the points
How about instead of blaming the attacking player for milking you blame Brown for grabbing Dufty in the first place. If he doesn't touch him then this is a complete non-issue. Similar to the Latrell and DCE incident a few weeks back. DCE milks the penalty but the only reason he was able to do so is because Latrell tried to illegally stop him from scoring a try.
Easy solution to the whole issue of penalty tries. Don't foul players because you think they are likely to score a try. The only reason players do it is because they hope to prevent a real try and avoid a penalty try. The coaches need to instruct players to not interfere illegally any more and hope the attacker doesn't score. That's now the best option and a great improvement on before. Some players haven't woken up yet though.
Again, if he doesn't dive he runs head first into it. He was heading towrds it because of the line Brown was running, not because brown was holding his shorts which would have actually pulled him inside the posts if there was any effort behind it
Why did Brown grab him in the first place? I'll answer it for you. It's because he was worried that Dufty was quicker than him and was about to score a try. He didn't believe Dufty would just run straight in to a post when he had the option to avoid it and he was correct. You don't reward Browns action by giving him what he was hoping for.
I've been a fan of more penalty tries for a long time and I'm glad they call more of them now. The idea that Dufty would run in to the post is ridiculous. Obvious penalty try. I still see the odd cave person carry on about '' being 100% certain '', .......... try looking up the actual rule.

Luckily the bunker understands that the only reason that he was heading towards the post is because the interference unbalanced him.

Mate, if he doesn't dive to the side of the post he goes head first into it

It's amazing how Dufty manages to fall in the opposite direction he's getting pulled

How is it controversial? Seemed like a straightforward penalty try to me.
