I must admit that when I was in the footy tipping competition at work I had an interest in every game. I was angry with myself coming 2nd one year where I played safe tipping favourites and the two winners that I thought would win did. When I found myself hoping for Newcastle to beat my team St.George I knew I should give it away.
Commercial realities are why we have golden point. The broadcasters have a big audience that stay tuned while they squeeze in a few advertisements. When I watch shows like Midsomer Murders I record them so I can fast forward at 6x so a 2 hour show can be reduced to 1.5 hours.
What happens when the golden point doesn't produce a winner? A penalty shootout or a field goal competition where all players have to have a kick. What about a diving competition where the 2nd referee can be brought back as a diving judge? A toss of the coin could be used to give us a winner.
Have tries worth one point like in touch football and do away with penalty and field goals. They're moving in the other direction as there are now 2 point field goals. Do you want conversion of tries?
There aren’t many draws but it makes a difference when there is one. It adds two columns to the competition table bringing the total to ten columns. This is not difficult but it adds precision to the table when there is Golden Point. The table actually has nine columns if you include the bye that every team gets. This is the extra two points that each team gets when they have a bye, the unnecessary complication that makes no difference and doesn’t achieve anything.
Unnecessarily complicated for no great difference. As pointed out before this system would have made no real difference to the competition table in any recent season
It makes the competition table harder to construct, harder to follow but doesn’t achieve anything
In golden point the only way to get a draw is playing out the extra time and not scoring at all so each team gets two points. So the five scores are as follows :– Win 4; GP Win 3; Draw 2; GP Loss 1; Loss 0; Hopefully PVL is reading the Roar and we could get this system for the 2021 season. St.George played their first game on St.George’s Day 23/04/1921.
4-2-0 is exactly the same as 2-1-0 - which is what we have now
In your system, if a golden point win is worth less than a normal time win, why is a golden point draw not worth less than a normal time draw
The points are shared in a golden point draw, two points each. In a game that doesn't go to golden point, for example when the Dragons beat Melbourne 42 - 2 the Dragons get 4 points and Melbourne get zero. The AFL have used the 4,2,0 for as long as I can remember and they get odd points for team penalties. They can penalise a club 1 point for a range of infringements like having rowdy fans or a player spitting at the umpire or saying Queen Victoria was plug-ugly.
people who don't like draws are as dumb as rocks mate.
everytime
the reason they don't like draws is cause of gambling habits. they lose money and their multis on draws so they are angry...hence why they are dumb as.
it's easy to see.
That's a bit harsh Bing. I don't understand the dislike of draws because a team that isn't in front at full time doesn't deserve full points and it is not fair to real winners.
Yes I do watch golden point hoping and barracking for no points. The Dragons usually fail to score in golden point, that's my team! As I explained elsewhere it is not fair to the teams that do have a real win and miss out on the finals because another team gets 2 points for a draw in real time.
Well what a surprise that I'm not up with the latest in Aussie Rules. Thanks Bing, but the shootout only comes after extra time so that is better than GP. I can handle GP if points are equal after extra time. If it has to be played in the rounds you need to score :–----------------- Win 4; GP Win 3; Draw 2; GP Loss 1; Loss 0;
But Soccer have extra time and only resort to the penalty shootout if there are no goals. It is common that there are no goals in Soccer but a penalty shootout gives a good chance of some being kicked. In Rugby League the winner of the toss kicks off deep and has to defend well or kicks short to get the ball. It is good rugby league but it should only be used after extra time five minutes each way.
Actually, the AFL did away with the replay in 2016. I did love the replay though.
All AFL finals now have extra time, and if scores are drawn after the allotment of extra time then it is golden point...a behind could decide a match.
And a penalty shootout in soccer is absolutely the worst way to decide a game. Worse than golden point.
Commercial realities. Broadcasters don't have an extra 20mins 'just in case'. GP gets a result for the bookie sponsors and finishes the game (generally) in minutes.

But why are there only 5? You’ve added golden point win and golden point loss, why haven’t you added golden point draw?

Golden Point should adopt a new points scoring to differentiate between the five results:– Win 4; GP Win 3; Draw 2; GP Loss 1; Loss 0;

The Maori scored 2 tries to 1 so they are the winners imo.
