Should Josh Addo-Carr have been awarded a penalty try in controversial end to Origin 3?

The defenders were momentarily stationary as they turned to chase. They were moving forward and then turned around and obstructed the chaser and stopped a try being scored. The sin bin was not a proper punishment for the crime. Should've been a golden point game.

Yes. Having watched the clip a couple of times I now have no doubt. The only thing that stops him is if , when he goes past the fullback, just as he’s about to dive on the ball Munster tackles him. Still a penalty try but now Munster is in the bin.

The defenders were facing JAC as he did a kick and chase in the direction of the try line. The defenders were momentarily stationary as they turned to chase. JAC accelerates past the defenders, one obstructs JAC. They were not going to catch him if they let him go as a try was a highly likely outcome. They stopped a try being scored so it should've been a penalty try. This clearly shows that a sin bin at that time is an infringement risk worth taking as the cheetah becomes the hero who wins the game. As you say JAC was illegally hit and it was as he was about to score a try. Isn't that the reason to give a penalty try?

Homes was in the same position earlier and botched a try. JOC could have done the same. Only NSW fans think this was a certain try. The right call was made.

Stationary!?! Did you factor in that their shoelaces were probably going to come untied too?

He could have caught it , painted it blue , done it’s nails , given it a shave and still put it on the ground before the maroon marauders arrived , but the original question is redundant .

Stationary now? They’ve gone from not running fast enough to jogging, to now standing still. If this goes on much longer the history books will record them as just getting on the bus as JAC was illegally hit seconds after breaking the sound barrier

Being a SoO in Qld was the reason the bunker took the cautious approach.

The referees took the negative view as they were in Qld and went with the crowd.

The defenders were stationary, turning around and as they knew they were not going to get the ball one pushed JAC as the only way to stop him getting to the ball. They were beaten and had no chance of catching JAC even if they were as fast as a Bolt. The referees must have thought JAC was a chance of having a brain explosion or tripping over his own feet. It would've been a try if it occurred in Adelaide.

But here’s what I don’t get about all this. Can you consider the speed of the player chasing? Everyone who considered it a penalty try seems to use JACs speed and skill as justification. What if Munster is actually faster than Usain Bolt and just never tested his full speed? What if it was a foot race between George Rose and Shane Webcke? What if one player is fresh and the other 75mins in? We know JAC was carrying an injury too. I just don’t see how a players speed and skill can be used as evidence.

There were three maroons standing around watching JAC run past and one moved to obstruct. The referee should've ruled a penalty try like in the 1999 grand final. That try wasn't a certainty like last night's try but it was awarded even though Aisncough could've made a ball and all tackle and pushed the Melbourne scorer back. The Qlders were casual observers who had no chance of getting to the ball unlike Ainscough. The rules were ignored for the State of Origin.

the bloke is the fastest man in the game, he proved what he could do in the previous game and I reckon he would have gotten there with ease.

If that was a mid-season game I think the bunker awards it a penalty try. JAC was moving in front of Munster as he was taken out and had no one else even close to the ball. Being a big game I think the bunker took the cautious approach which was to be expected.

I am at a loss why the commentars and now referees consider distance as being an influence on "penalty tries" Ado-Carr was going to be 2 metres in front of Cameron Munster and as the fullback took A-C out of the play deliberately it in my view could have and should have been awarded , it should always be considered with a positive attitude not negative.....yes a penalty try should have been ruled.

JAC is in a maroon jumper and Bernie Gomersall awards that without going to the bunker.
