Argentina will field a youthful line up against the USA as both sides look to score wins that are all about pride rather than qualification as we approach the conclusion of the group stages of the World Cup. After reaching the semi-finals in 2015 and the Jaguares making the Super Rugby final this year, Argentina will be deeply disappointed with their performance in Japan. After crucial losses to both France and England, they are heading home with one final opportunity to end on some sort of a positive note.

Mario Ledesma has chosen to make nine changes and will be looking to the future as he gives some less experienced players a chance to kick start the next phase of Argentinian rugby.

It’ll be an emotional time for some, especially Juan Manuel Leguizamon and Tomas Lavanini. For the distinguished Leguizamon, it’ll be his final international game while for Lavanini, he’s bowing out of the World Cup as a result of a red card and four-match ban.

Skipper Pablo Matera starts and will be wanting to end on some sort of a high so look for him and Leguizamon to dominate the Eagles at the breakdown and try and make plenty of metres for their team.

The USA won’t be a pushover though and will have taken a lot of confidence from their match against the French recently. Having competed for the first hour of the match they fell away in the final quarter and will be looking to put in the full 80-minute performance this time.

They’ve only made three changes to their side for this match. These changes do mean that fans will get to see exciting scrum-half Ruben de Haas make his first start after impressive bench appearances.

Whilst their final game against Tonga is more winnable, the Eagles might well sense an opportunity here against a struggling Argentina.

Prediction
It will be interesting to see how lethal a wounded Puma can be. The bet is pretty lethal and while the USA will bring passion to the match, they won’t be able to cope with the Pumas for the full 80.

Argentina by 25.

MATCH REPORT Argentina have beaten the USA 47 to 17 as the Pumas bow out of the Rugby World Cup with a disappointing campaign. It was always going to be a strange game - the Pumas had nothing to play for other than pride and the USA would arguably be focusing on their weekend final match against Tonga as one they could really win. However that didn't stop the game from being very entertaining and both sides giving it their all. In the opening period of the game it was clear that the USA were going to struggle with the pace and running lines of the Pumas backs. Up front the Pumas were good at the break down and their set piece was solid but it was in the backs that the South Americans really caused the USA trouble. That being said it took them almost 20 minutes before they got on the scoreboard as Nicolas Sanchez went over to complete a nice little move where the fly half initially created a hole for his centre to fly through and then followed up and supported to take the final pass and score the try. Joaquin Tuculet then struck twice before half time and the Pumas built a good lead. But the USA struck back in lovely style just before half time with a try from Blaine Scully. It was initially the great work by AJ MacGinty who drew in the defenders before putting in a nice grubber kick for his skipper to sprint onto. Whilst the Pumas were in control, there was a question about what would happen if the USA struck again early in the second half. Would the Argentinians start to panic a bit? Well we never got to find out because the Pumas came out and tore the Americans to pieces in the opening 16 minutes of the second half. Two tries from centre Juan Cruz Mallia and then a score for Jeronimo De La Fuente in the 56th minute (all converted by Nicolas Sanchez) tore the heart out of any USA comeback and the Pumas had a comfortable lead. The USA continued to work hard though and hard running centre got a well deserved try half way through the second half. But the USA were never able to threaten the Pumas for extended periods of time. The USA looked much better with ball in hand but unfortunately kept kicking the ball away and allowing the Pumas exciting back line to run at them time and time again. The Pumas had brought in a number of younger players to their starting line up today and some of them shone. The centre pairing of Jeronimo de La Fuente and Juan Cruz Mallia is quite new but they looked so dangerous together and unlocked the defence time after time and scored plenty of points between them. On the wing Bautista Delguy was exciting to watch especially when he set off across the field behind his own try line before straightening, side stepping and flying into space and setting up the Pumas for a lovely try a couple of phases later. The USA should be acknowledged for fighting right to the end and it was fitting that their skipper Scully got a second try with the final play of the game. The USA were never really in the contest today and they will be concerned with the number of missed tackles (40% were missed) and 15 turnovers ahead of their clash with Tonga. They showed that they do have some players who can really trouble their opponents this weekend and they will need AJ MacGinty to control the game well. But they need to tighten up their performance if they are going to get the victory. For the Pumas there will be some deep analysis over what went wrong. They had a tough group for sure with England and France standing in their way, but they will be very disappointed about the way in which they let France get off to such a fast start and will know they should have won that one. We're getting close to the end of the pool games and there's loads of great rugby to get involved in here on The Roar! Thanks for all your comments and banter today and see you soon!

FINAL SCORE Argentina: 47 USA: 17 Argentina have wrapped up their World Cup with a big win over the USA by 30 points. It was always going to be a tough game for the Americans and while they tried their hardest they were always off the pace and their errors and inexperience cost them too many times. It will be a very bitter sweet win for the Pumas - so much was expected of them but they lost the two crucial group games and are now eliminated from the competition. The USA will have one more game this weekend where they will play Tonga. That is the game they will have been targeting for a win and will take some confidence and plenty of learnings from this loss. FULL MATCH REPORT TO COME.

TRY!!! Scully has got his second! The USA sucked in all the Pumas defenders and then shipped a nice long pass out to the wing who had so much space he could walk over the line to score! Argentina: 47 USA: 17 Time: 82:00

Nice break by Augspurger but he's caught before he can really get free. USA run out of ideas and Brache kicks ahead a bit aimlessly. Pumas clear to touch and then they steal the ball at the line out and will have one final attack. Argentina: 47 USA: 12 Time: 79:10

USA kick to touch and have the line out. Oh dear - Pinkelman tries to give a big miss pass out to the wing but it goes well over the wingers' head and into touch! Argentina: 47 USA: 12 Time: 76:00

Argies bowing out of the tournament with a bit of flair. Too bad they won't be in the knockout stages this year.

Pumas line out about 10m from the USA line. They try and get the maul moving and it gains a few inches, then a few more and then a few more and now they are 6m short. Argentina: 47 USA: 12 Time: 74:30

Where has this been all tournament Argentina? Hard to be too tough on them after a line-ball outcome v France that could have landed them in the quarters but they have lacked this fluency
