The Central Coast Mariners have a chance to further cement their credentials as the best side in the A-League when they take on Western United to finish the weekend’s football action. Join The Roar for live scores from 6:10pm (AEDT).
No side has been more of a surprise packet than the Mariners this season. Despite being tipped to occupy the lower places of the ladder, they’ve won four of their six games to date to sit perched right at the top of the pack.
Their last outing was perhaps their most impressive: a superb comeback victory over Melbourne City. Despite going down 2-0, they rallied behind veteran Matt Simon and clawed their way back for a 3-2 win.
United haven’t been able to find their groove yet, although they’ve only been able to play four fixtures to date. They are undefeated in their last two matches though, even though you’d be hard-pressed to find two more contrasting matches.
Two weeks ago they won a 5-4 thriller against the Glory – a game in which they led just 1-0 at the break before a second-half goal glut – while last week saw a scoreless draw with the Victory, although a more chance-filled goalless match you’re unlikely to find.
Kick-off: 6:10pm (AEDT)
Venue: Central Coast Stadium

Or hopefully a reverse scoreline of the 2012 GF.

We salute you, Central Coast Mariners. Forever grateful that the mighty Staj is leading the Gosford army on a A-League odyssey. I bet the Matilda’s (& precious managerial snowflakes) are kicking themselves now.
