It’s second versus third in an old-fashioned A-League blockbuster, Melbourne City hosting the red-hot Perth Glory in a match that could well be a finals preview. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:30pm (AEDT).

After four losses in six games saw City’s stronghold on second spot on the ladder slip, Erick Mombaerts’ men have righted the ship in the past three weeks.

However, they’ve still looked a fair way from their best in recent weeks, their 2-0 triumph over the struggling Newcastle Jets last week belying an uncharacteristically spluttering performance.

They were sent back across the Nullabor with tails between their legs the last time they played the Glory, a 3-0 loss back in December that City will be desperate to avenge.

For the Glory, that win proved the firestarter for what has become a dangerous hot streak for the other ten A-League sides.

Six straight wins, nearly all of them emphatic, have not only turned around the Glory’s lacklustre start to their premiership defence, but now has them on the cusp of the top two.

An away win here would see them overtake City in second spot on the ladder, and in the sort of form they’re in, it’s hard to see Tony Popovic and his charges letting that slip.

Prediction
This should be a cracking match, but City’s leaky defence has been a problem for some weeks, and with the likes of Fornaroli and Castro in deadly form up front, that could prove critical.

City 1-3 Glory

Hahahahaha, I missed read that as “be the dominant Victorian farce in the A-League.”

Halftime. Melbourne City with a weight of possession, but they can’t convert it into something meaningful. Perth Glory haven’t really been threatening in front of goal, with limited shots. City need to win to be the dominant Victorian force in the A-League.
