Premiership secured, the Sydney FC host Western United in their final home and away game of the season. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:00pm (AEST).

It’s going to be a hell of a party for the home side. Sydney FC have secured the premiership plate which they’ll receive after the game this evening.

All that said and done, they will be wanting to win tonight’s clash – especially so after last weekend. They have not won for several weeks now, losing two and drawing too. Last week’s affair – an entertaining clash against the Brisbane Roar – saw both sides score in the first half, and some Jamie Young brilliance denied the Sky Blues a winning goal.

Western United have been in decent form. They’ve secured two wins in the past fortnight. These include an impressive 2-0 victory over Perth Glory last weekend and a 5-3 win over the Wanderers the week prior. They’ve secured a spot in finals, but would love a win in this one to continue their positive momentum – winning five from their last six.

Both sides have made some changes. The Sky Blues welcome Michael Zullo and Rhyan Grant back into the squad.

Mark Rudan has drafted in three youngsters, including former Adelaide United player Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, while resting Socceroo Josh Ridson.

Sydney have a good record at Leichardt Oval, winning three of their last four here.

This I reckon is the best advertisement for a finals series. It's always sat uncomfortably with the football world but I think it deserves to be here, as long as we can properly distinguish it from the regular season. Here we have Sydney who are undisputed premiers, and deserve to celebrate that trophy today. But their form has looked shaky late on and got a lot worse with the covid break. The finals should therefore exist to test who's the best performing team *at the season's end*, which the premiership doesn't really tell us. And I think it's genuinely needed this year as it's hard to tell who could lift the toilet seat. So keep the finals, but make it more distinct from the premiership (which also deserves to be celebrated better).

Ominous signs for Sydney... I wasn't subscribed to the belief the sky was falling, but I'm pretty concerned now.

Audacious effort from Diamanti!!! Taking a shot from the centre of the pitch trying to chip in for goal over the head and outstretched arm of Redders. Hit the cross bar!!!!!
