Two of the newest A-League franchises in Western United and Macarthur FC battle in Sydney due to Victoria’s COVID-19 outbreak. Join The Roar from 7pm (AEST) for live scores from Leichhardt Oval.
This match was originally slated to be played at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium, but has been moved north to avoid the Victorian government’s lockdown.
United’s season has simply fallen apart after a strong start. They have now lost their last six matches, the latest an embarrassing 6-1 thrashing at the hands of lowly Melbourne Victory. Now eight points behind sixth-placed Macarthur FC, their finals hopes are officially shot – but they wouldn’t want to end the season with eight losses in a row.
Macarthur themselves are far from assured of a finals berth, with Wellington Phoenix just a point behind in seventh and the Wanderers and Perth Glory also in the hunt for finals. Giving up a 1-0 lead to lose to the Mariners last week would have rankled Ante Milicic, and they will be hoping for a more comprehensive defensive effort this time around.
Macarthur face the Phoenix in the final round, so anything short of a win here would make that match a possible sixth-spot playoff. Victory here, though, would all but guarantee them finals even if they lose that match.

TV: Fox Sports 5 (505)

Feeling a tad sorry for WU. They deserve better than Rudan, although, he can be very entertaining when he gets miffed. You certainly wouldn’t want to cross him in a dark McDonalds ally.
