Now those are names that Man Utd could do with right now. Gordon Hill was my favourite back in the day, along with Sammy McIlroy.
I think you meant: Stuart Pearson
Missed the point mate. United went from the late 60’s to the early 90’s without a title. I followed them from the late 70’s until then. 20 odd years without a title . I then lived in Nottingham for a year, continuing to follow United.
How I started watching United? Match of the Day. My brother chose the dark team on the black and white tv (Liverpool(, I chose the light (Man U). Liverpool won btw.
Google Albiston, Duxbury , Steve Paterson, Martin Buchan, Ashley Grimes, Peter Barnes, Gordon Hill, Stevie Coppell, The Greenhoff brothers etc.
Posers whose only engagement with football are Goal Highlights and video games, won't realise Manchester United finished 18 (out of 22) in 1973; then finished 2nd last in 1974 and got relegated.
1974/75 Manchester United played 2nd Tier of England. Away trips to Leyton Orient, Blacpool, York City. Yes, following United in the 1970s was real Glory Hunting.
Retrospectively, that story sounds great. The reality, at the time, probably was very different for you.
What is clear from your little story is: You lived in Nottingham yet followed a Power House club for no apparent reason other than being a try-hard glory hunter.
It’s also not 20 years with a few FA Cups. It’s 20 years with 5 Premierships & 7 FA Cups from the late 70’s onward.
I've got a mate who is a Sydney FC fan, having lived in Sydney for many years. He lives in Newcastle now so has become a Jets member, to support the game, and the local community, but he retained his SFC membership. When Sydney comes to town he wears his Sydney gear, otherwise he supports the Jets.
It's difficult if your city didn't have a team, and then they do. It's very different switching one overseas team for another. I've always been a United fan. I lived in Nottingham for a while and watched Forest, but supported United, despite all of my father's family being Forest members. They would have thought it was weird had I swapped
Spot on, Fadida. It's comical - but, given the demographic of the poser, not unexpected - to hear an adult saying he's changed team. I'd be more lenient and say up to the age of 10 you can change allegiance. Especially if your original allegiance was purely driven by family & you had no choice.
But, as an adult? That's just cringeworthy. If they ever want to define a plastic, Australian sports fan - this would be the example cited. The Aussies who knows FA about football, but spent time backpacking in England in their 20s. Imagine the reaction of real Arsenal fans in North London to such Aussie posers.
Happy wife, happy life as they say. No point arguing with her when it comes to football.
She's an Arsenal tragic — may as well join her since she moved to Australia for me.

Sounds like you are now cherry picking dates to suit your narrative.

Trust me mate, there was no glory hunting to be had when I started following United in the late 70's. It was 20 years with a few FA Cups.

There is no valid reason. Once you are an adult you stick with your team, no matter what.

There are some exceptions. There's a good chance I'll switch allegiance of an NRL team comes to Perth. Is that acceptable?

That little dig would make sense except Arsenal has been just as rubbish, over the past few years, as United. Well done.

Nothing wrong with changing teams. If you're 8 years old or younger
