The hook line “How Good Is It?” sums up for me the Bundesliga action now on OneHD. I realise that on Fox Sports, Setanta and ESPN, there is a plethora of football available for live viewing or as highlight packages.
SBS also do a sterling job showing a number of games, despite having one hand tied behind their back.
However, I have to congratulate Ten for procuring rights to the German Bundesliga and showing it on OneHD. Watching the highlights package the other night confirmed that my nostalgic memory from the 70s and 80s has not failed me – great crowds and atmosphere, tight matches, great goals and some pieces of intricate skill, even though the world famous players have now deserted for more lucrative shores elsewhere.
The Bundesliga is a superb league not only for the on-field action, but from an administration point of view.
I believe it is a benchmark for others.
I can only hope now that my boyhood favourites (due to the excellence of their Subbuteo team), Borussia Monchengladbach, can climb back up to the upper echelons of German football.

Just the start IMO. Serie-A now on OneHD and rumors that Ten are up for a 'bidding war' over the A-League/Socceroos complete package. Time will tell. A few years to wait yet.

great to see oneHD taking up football, will be watching the highlights program and match of the week as often as i can. hope this leads to, in the short term, highlights/review prgrams for the a-league, +/-EPL, serie a etc. longer term, oneHD is the logical FTA destination for the a-league (or at least one or two games per round). hats off to ten/one for their support of football.

Try and get a standing ticket, but if they are all sold out and you want to see a game - well then you need to spend some money.

and even tho jesus left there is still vidosic and spira... aussies to watch over seas! wld be great to see more there, maybe if the Bundesliga maintains an FTA presence they might be joined by a few more 'strailians. agree with the sentiment that it's a benchmark league and more entertaing (to me) than La liga or Serie A. Now if only someone got the FTA rights to the durch league....

I'm actually an Aussie who's been living in Germany for the last 12 months and I went to Werder Bremen's 3-2 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on the opening weekend. But someone mentioned here before about wellpriced tickets in Germany, but from my experience thats not the case. Some of the prices for matches are ludicrous and while I can't speak for every team (as I didnt try to purchase tickets at every stadium), many I encountered were too much. In saying that, it's amazing that the Bundesliga continues to be one of the most watched live competitions in the world.

Watched it too - the highlights on tuesday evening and the repeat yesterday afternoon. Some excellent quality football and very open too. A really good highlights package that reminds me of the great coverage Serie A used to get in the mid-nineties. Maybe One HD would like to pick up FTA rights for this too? Midfielder you need to watch more Italian and Spanish games - I don't know what you are basing your comments on. The Italian league was very open last year and without looking up stats I'm sure it averaged more goals than most leagues in Europe last year, and like in Germany and Spain the teams in the bottom half of the table could play a bit too! It is hardly a defensive league. Actually didn't see the 2008/09 figures but from 95/96 to 2007/08 Serie A outscored the EPL (average goals per game) eight times (& drew once). Jamie. A great article. I am a fan of the Bundesliga as well. Werder Bremen, Shalke, and Bayern Munich being my favourite teams. Some of the best players in the world are still in Germany. Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Koller, Frei, Altintop, Kloser, Lahm, Frings, Mertesacker, Borowski, Sagnol, Ribery, Saenkio and Rosenburg. There are many other great players in the Bundesliga too, but those are just the few that pop to mind.

Caught the highlights the other night and was very impressed. Great atmosphere at the games and the results seem a lot less predictable then the EPL. I'll be making it a regular on my TV viewing schedule for sure.

The Bundesliga averaged 42,000 per game last season with the 2nd division over 15,000. Germans love their football and the club culture is as strong as anywhere in the world. Agreed it is great to see FTA picking up on the world game. Hopefully for OneHD it is only the beginning and eventually there may be some HAL on FTA.
