Who needs Sheedy when Western Sydney has Campo

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

Former Waratahs and Wallabies Mark Hartill and David Campese have agreed to coach Parramatta first grade rugby union side next year. Mark Hartill will be the Head coach, concentrating on the forwards, and Campo will handle the backline and handling skills.

I do not think they are doing it for the money. There is none.

Mark Hartill and David Campese are not career coaches. From my knowledge, Hartill has been associated with a number of very successful junior rep sides from Gordon.

Campo did a stint with Sharks in South Africa as backline and skills coach.

Their mere presence will act as a magnet both to retain current players and attract youngsters. Parramatta has made the very difficult decision to move from the hallowed turf at Granville to Castle Hill, provided the required ground is available at Castle Hill.

This is now the subject of negotiations with Baulkham Hills Council.

Parramatta Two Blues seek to position itself as the rugby team of North Western Sydney.

It will not be easy for Hartill and Campo but their names alone will instill some confidence in a club with a proud history that has seen better times.

Hills, Hawkesbury, Rooty Hill... Why are these clubs considered to be strong clubs. Isn't there any considerations for seniors subbies or is it not worth looking in these comps especially for parramatta.

Well . . . good luck with all this, because I can think of few people in Australian sport who can get people offside as easily as Campo.

Good for the Hills, sad for Parramatta. Looks like we are just giving up the rest of the west to AFL and league. How about we move Uni to Granville ... :) Or St Mary's!!! What's wrong with Castle Hill Showground for the 2 Blues? Last time I checked Granville wasn't that crash hot a ground. Not like you've got 10,000 crowds ... Worth looking at the development zones on the NSWRU web site. The North West out to Richmond appears to be a dead zone with no real coverage. http://www.nswrugby.com.au/DevelopmentRugby/SydneyRugbyDevelopment/SydneyRugbyDevelopment.aspx Maybe the mighty Hills 2 Blues will make up for that.

Great news Westy and I hope Parramatta survive this turmoil and go on to greater things. The best thing about this new club is the positioning, sure Eastwood claims players from that area but it is still a fair drive away and there are a lot of people in the area plus if you can keep the Parramatta players in the net then there is plenty of reason for optimism.

Pity such a news worthy item as - Campo & Hartill to coach Two Blues - might have taken the shine off the AFL and their Kevin Sheedy back page stories last week. Moving Two Blues to Castle Hill should only be seen as a stop gap measure with their eventual destination further west, say Rouse Hill. When you look at where the stong clubs are, Hills, Western Raptors (once known as Rooty Hill), and Hawkesbury this makes far more sense as to why the move was necessary when looking for colts to bolster the senior team.

i agree with moving away from granville, but kings is only in north parramatta/kingsdene and there are a few ovals down there which could be developed only a little bit in order to retain the whole area and gain the people from the hills and rydalmere, opposed to castle hill which is really on one side of their territory, hawkesbury is still a bit from the hills anyway, much like dural is for eastwood i live on the edge of the ryde eastwood and parramatta areas and hope that parramatta become on par with eastwood so we get a bit of a local derby in the same snse as eastwoods rivalries with the north shore and syd uni teams

Good to see and what few people know is that North Western Sydney has about 600, 000 people and has no team what so ever to support .. I think of changing the name to the Hillies would be smart.. There are 4 RL teams in WS but none in NWS .. six former NSL teams and none in NWS... smart move..

Interesting article in the SMH by Jacquelin Magnay hinting that, a new Football stadium will be built in Blacktown if the 2018 WC bid is successful... From her article: Stadiums that will be modified are ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, the Sydney Football Stadium, Newcastle Stadium, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Etihad at Docklands in Melbourne, Dairy Farmers Stadium at Townsville, Subiaco Stadium in Perth and a stadium in Adelaide. New stadiums may be built in Canberra and western Sydney, possibly at Blacktown. David Gallop and John O'Neil would definately get on board ... Now it isn't clear if she means an oval one, or a brand new rectangle one, to service the Blacktown region ... But hopefully its a rectangle one and this could mean a state-of-the-art 40k venue for the 3 rectangle football codes and perhaps for 3 new football franchises for League, Rugby, and Football the WS Rovers FC... ~~~~~~~ KB

This is wonderful news for Australia if you ask me. It's really sad that Australia has had three players in Mark Ella, David Campese, and Topo Rodriguez, who are possibly the best ever in their positions, and who aren't requested by Super 14 sides for tactical help. Sure the game has changed a lot over the last two decades, but some basic principles of rugby remain the same, and are ignored. Murray Mexted asked Campese to help with some New Zealand copaching clinics early this decade and reported Campese was a tremendous help. According to Campese, many of the players showed talent, but when he asked them to do some of the trickiest drills he could think of, many of them struggled. South Africa aren't oblivious to Campese's availability either. Campese has worked with the Sharks before as mentioned. Yet in Australia Campese isn't asked to help? Part of it, I'm sure, is to do with Campo's newspaper criticisms of just about everything, but it also might be down to the fact that, for whatever reason, Australia views their past players and coaches as out of touch. Yet when I read what Mark Ella writes these days, it's blatantly obvious that he understands the structure and dynamics of the modern game. Campo has a new website called the 11thcommandment.tv, where he talks about anything and everything. Seldom does he say something I'm interested in, but he said something noteworthy about wing-play during the Lions series. It was something I'd never heard before, it had value, and it's not something that's practiced by many wings today. All I could ask myself was: why isn't Campo allowed to pass on this knowledge? Maybe because Campo runs his mouth so much people tend to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but I think it's a disgrace that Campo hasn't coached more. He surely has more knowledge of the game than people give him credit for.

Norm I think it will be along wait. Secondly I do not think the required ground in Hills will be available for some time. Rugby future perhaps only one will survive but it is better than sending the white flag up.The stongest parramatta junior club is the Hills and followed by Norwest and Hawkesbury. Dural is a long way from Milner. Eastwood's stongest is Beecroft , Eastwood and Epping are like Dundas declining Secondly there was and still is much angst moving from Granville. Merrylands railway line was a stroll away. However the M7 paradoxically puts places like liverpool/Casula and Campbelltown only 20 and 30 minutes away by car from Castle Hill.. Secondly and bluntly some of the private school players in the area may have less heitancy heading for the Castle Hill than Granville. Hartill and Campese names say it all. there is hope. A most important commodity

moving it into the hills is smart, since thats where the rugby supporters are, but Eastwood are very close by and have territory stretching upto dural too, north parramatta might have been a smarter decision
