Ricky Nixon has had his fate sealed in the last few days, by a girl on a mission for AFL scalps. Like the John Wayne film, The Searchers, she isn’t going to stop until she gets what she wants.
This vendetta will almost certainly end the career of a man who was up there as one of the most powerful men in the AFL.
Nixon, simply, has had his power base shattered and his reputation destroyed.
Even if he has not had an affair with the girl, his “inappropriate dealings” will surely have his accreditation taken off him. I’m not a father, but if a 47 year-old stranger is giving alcohol to a 17 year-old girl, then something legally and ethically is not right in Nixon’s head.
Nixon claimed he was worried about the girl’s state of mind, but a person worried about someone’s mental health would not contemplate giving them booze.
In fact, the worst thing he could have done was to give alcohol to someone on the edge. I feel the girl should have been worried about Mr Nixon’s state of mind rather than the other way round.
On top of his “inappropriate dealings” (quote of the month), Nixon’s involvement with the girl has also compromised his relationship with two people fighting the girl’s breach of their privacy.
Sam Gilbert and Nick Riewolt both have him as a manager and surely they can’t have a relationship with a man who, whether or not he has had a sexual relationship with the girl, has had secret dealings with someone attacking them.
The AFLPA cannot be considered a credible organisation if it allows Nixon to continue as an AFL-accredited manager.
If they don’t do something, I’m sure that Andrew Demetriou and the AFL, in an effort to protect the sport’s creditability, will end his AFL managerial career in some way.

Except the alleged cocaine use, breach of client trust and all round conflict of interest given the situation.

He supplied her with cocaine as well: http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/blog-with-derryn-hinch/hinch-nixon-out-of-sight-out-of-mind/20110223-1b5c0.html If the St Kilda sagas and the Nixon affairs again go unpunished it will be yet another blight on the AFL, their credibility and their reputation.

Yes you have hit the nail on the head. His action was highly unethical and its not the sort of behaviour which can be tolerated in someone whose role it is to guide young people. He's an embarrassment to our code with no credibility left. He deserves to go. He has to go.

no ben, thats 16, its 18 if he has a legal duty of care towards her, such as being her teacher, which he isn't... if i was her teacher i would resign and indulge myself for the evening, but thats me, i'm a smutty rotten floppybottom...

This stuff is always hard. If she was over 18 he wouldn't have technically done anything wrong.

It appears as though this "misjudged schoolgirl" is far smarter than Nixon although after what it is alleged he has done that wouldn't be too difficult. Maybe his football clients should get her for their manager.

Get rid of all player managers while they're at it, all the leeches do is prolong the adolesensne of football players. Not a coincidence that the two biggest off season scandals in AFL and NRL (Nixon/Riewoldt/schoolgirl and Ryan Tandy betting fix) have both involved player managers. And don't friggin start me about managers shoppping their players around to other codes for a 'challenge'-looking at you David Riolo you goose. Not a coincidence that one of the most articulate and successful rugby league players to retire in recent years, Shane Webcke, never had a manager. It's just something washed up players who didn't make plans for the future do for a quick buck.

This bloke is a goose. He knows that this bird is a crazy little slapper. More fool him for even going near her. He like Fevola have made bad decisions and now they must lie in the bed that they have made.

Without commenting on precisely what happened, it doesn't really surprise me. His life has been heading towards devastation since he crashed into the tram, and didn't remember what had happened. Even before then, his confrontation with Wayne Carey on air wasn't of someone you would trust to be your manager. "I’m not a father, but if a 47 year-old stranger is giving alcohol to a 17 year-old girl, then something legally and ethically is not right in Nixon’s head." You don't need to be a father to have an opinion.
