Super Bowl XLVI Giants vs Patriots: NFL live scores, blog

By Cam Larkin / Roar Guru

Super Bowl XLVI. Rematch. Revenge. Whatever you want to call it, we’re set for a blockbuster of a match between New York Giants and New England Patriots. We’ll have live scores and commentary of the biggest game on America’s sporting calender from 10.30am AEDT.

Two elite quarterbacks – one set for the Hall of Fame, the other making a case for his place. Eli Manning and Tom Brady are Super Bowl winning MVPs. Brady is aiming to win his fourth ring and become only the second quarterback to do so.

Two head coaches – both primed for the Hall of Fame.

At 10.30am this morning, the New England Patriots will take to the field and battle against their inter-conference rival the New York Giants.

Four years ago, these two sides played an epic game with the Giants pulling off one of the most stunning upsets in Super Bowl history when they defeated the unbeaten and heavily favoured Patriots.

The Giants run to the big dance started with a win over Atlanta in the wildcard game, then were far too good for the Green Bay Packers on their home turf before being victorious against San Francisco in extra time to make it to today.

New York lost four consecutive games during the season including a bad loss to San Francisco that resulted in talk about a season in ruins and a coach preparing his resume.

After that loss, the Giants came out and with 35 seconds to go in the game, Manning successfully executed a match winning drive to beat the Patriots.

The Patriots made it to the Super Bowl by smashing Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos (45-10) in the divisional then fought hard to get the win over Baltimore in the conference championship.

New England only lost three games throughout the regular season including New York, Pittsburgh and Buffalo.

Here is what needs to happen today. Both teams need to deal with the big game hype. The giants must get to Brady and limit the Patriots tight ends.

New York and New England have to stay balanced. The latter need to slow down New York’s weaponry and get after Eli. Both teams also must control the tempo and get a ground game going.

Two matchups to watch are Giants C David Bass v the Patriots NT Vince Wilfork and Patriots WR Wes Wlker v Giants CB Cory Webster.

Tom Brady is on 39,979 yards and will reach 40,000 in the Super Bowl. Another interesting point is whichever team win, will their coach retire?

Enjoy the game. Join us right here from 10.30am for start-to-finish live scores and play-by-play commentary of this tantalising rematch, and give us your thoughts in the space below.

Game over. I like NFL and every game has its idiosyncracies but one team leeting the other team score whilst the scoring team tries not to score. Only basketball could also have such a finish.

Why was it an illegal huddle? Al Michaels et al dropped the ball on this one. Madden would have been right on it with a concise explanation.

Good call Cameron, sounded like a great game and could have gone either way in the end, disappointed the Patriots didn't win, but the Giants seemed to be better on the day. I've recorded the game on my Optus mobile and I'll go home and watch it after work, if that is OK with Mister Demetriou and the AFL commissioners. Could I suggest you mention the score a bit more often in your NFL calls - I had to scroll down a long way each time to get the latest score. Thanks

Before the game I asked if Brady would get over the 100 QB pass rating ... he finished on 91.1. - Manning ... 103.8. Brady threw an interception ... Manning didn't. The Giants had a better air game / they had a better pass game ... and they won the final game of the year.

RECAP: NY had the balls for just over 14mins more than the Pats. We knew the game was going to go down to the last mins in the 4th qtr. NE owner Robert Kraft was motinless after the match when the ball hit the deck. Stats wise the Giants came out on top but only just ... this game could've gone either way. In short ... Manning delivered and executed better than Brady. Manningham was huge. Not having Gronkowski fit was a big loss to the NE side. The Giants D was very good with Tuck leading them in applying pressure on the Pats star QB.

Coach Coughlin: "we can play better than this, guys" - that's what I told them at the half.

That final minute of play ain't exactly going to make the Pats' highlights reel for the season.

I was wrong with the score but the team was right ... the Giants were too good and defeated the Pats 21-17.
