Gordon Bray on The Roar Rugby Show

By Scott Allen / Expert

This week I’m joined on the panel by Gordon Bray from Channel 10 and Brett McKay from The Roar.

With all his experience covering rugby, Gordon gives us some fantastic insights into what’s happening in the game.

We discuss what the Wallabies can expect from France, the results of Super Rugby matches in Round 2, the expansion of Super Rugby and what we should expect from the Round 3 Super Rugby matches.

He might be a nice guy, I've never met him. However his media personality is one I can, and will do without. You can be a nice bloke and still be an overrated commentator.

Thanks mate. Investigations continuing! Good to know all problems so we can avoid them for all future shows.

Yep well said Harry. He drove 5 hrs up to Gunnedah in north west NSW to host our 'Red Devils' dinner one year and donated to us a signed Wallabies jersey and a signed footy from his own collection to auction off & help raise money for the club. Did it all for free as well (didn't even ask us to cover his travel or accommodation). He was a real genuine good bloke and did it just coz he wanted to help out a rugby club. Not surprising at all that a few people are sticking up for him. PS great podcast Scot

Spot on Harry. He came to ref our club's (Chatswood Rugby) centenary match, for free and help us raise some much needed $. Like you said, he hung around after for a beer & BBQ and a natter with the players and families. Absolute gentleman. I don't think it matters what you say as as a commentator, some sour face like Rabbitz or Johnno will find fault with it somewhere.

Scott that is one of my favourite podcasts. Listened to it on the way home from work tonight. Brett, thanks for your fantastic insights. And to Gordon as well - what can we say, you're an absolute legend of the game. Awesome to have you on the show. Would love to hear what the three of you talk for hours on end. Very Very enjoyable

Scott, that was fantastic getting Gordon Bray on. I've grown up listening to him since the early 1980s. What a legend, and seemed like such a nice guy Gotta get some Super Rugby on to free to air. People will still get foxtel, but putting it on FTA will help the game grow. Absolutely top show - keep up the good work

I totally disagree and think that's very unfair. Gordon has turned up to ref my 13yo son play rugby on Saturday mornings on several occasions over the last couple of years and he always sticks around for a sausage sizzle and has a chat to all the other dads afterwards. No pay, no kids of his own playing on the day or anything like that, just turns up and does his thing. And the kids all get a real buzz out of it. He's been a lovely bloke every time he's come, nothing but the nicest things to say about him. So I think that is very unfair what you said

Hey Scott, Thank you very much for that. I look forward each week to your show. If i could make a suggestion, id love to hear more about specific players..perhaps a piece on probable vs possible wallabies....as there are some kids really putting their hands up especially in Backline. More expert views on the Pocock vs Gill, Cooper vs Toomua etc etc This weekend we had Aiden Vs Alofa Alofa also Speight playing against Cummins.......lots of very exciting individual matchups...oh and to me an out of form Robinson vs Holmes.

Agreed, every game I have watched I have really enjoyed Bray and desperately miss the Bray, Buddha, Poidevan coverage. I feel we've all been robbed since its loss.

Patrick, You are an absolute legend. I just listened to the podcast. Just want to let you know the problem has been solved for me at least here in China. I understand there will be some issues and I don't mind having to wait a few more hours to listen to it as long as I can at some stage. Thanks again Patrick, keep up the good work. Really good show. Well done to all. To those of you disrespecting Gordon Bray I think you should pull your head in. The man is the voice of rugby and even though you may not think his commentary is perfect he manages to bring a level of excitement to rugby that the team at fox could certainly learn from. Like many others I grew up with the Bray and Buddha. Those two together were dynamic and a joy to listen to. He also manages to keep things unbiased. If you ask me who I prefer Clarke or Bray, I would say Bray without even blinking.

Hi Patrick, I have the same problems as gaxman and atlas here in the UK. I was able to watch last weeks edition via your youtube channel, but this weeks hasn't been posted there yet. Also, Scott has the clip on his Twitter page but that doesnt work for me either. Not sure if that helps you in your investigations in some way, just thought I'd mention it? Also, really really appreciate what you guys provide. Big thanks!

Scott, what are the chances of getting Bill Pulver or Lord Hawker on the next segment to discuss how we can get our game back on track financially ? It's a bit depressing reading about the parlous Financial position, when you consider the NRL are committing millions to grass roots while the AFL money train keeps rolling through from one town to the next.

Interesting discussion. Scott picked the Reds based on form while Brett picked the Tahs based on what sounded like hope. Scott's analysis was more convincing. But then, I would say that, wouldn't I.

Furthermore Scott! :-) Doing something only for money, or mostly for money, is an invitation to eventual disaster. Because it doesn't bother to worry about the development structures below that feed the top. SANZAR is taking rugby to an unknown place & we don't know if that is a good place. The historically vital domestic comps of South Africa & New Zealand - Currie Cup, NPC/Ranfurley Shield - are being twisted & squeezed to feed an ever increasingly voracious SANZAR super rugby comp across the globe. For Australia it doesn't matter, since my early suspicion is that the NRC will be another dud. The northern hemisphere hasn't been asked to make the same sacrifices as the southern hemisphere. In the NH, traditional clubs qualify for the all-nations Heineken Cup through their own domestic comps - English Aviva Premiership, French Top 14, Italian Championship of Excellence - the exception being the Celtic-Italian combo RaboDirect Pro12.

tc im putting the question to PeterK. Read my posts above, im putting the questions to PeterK, which I want answers from him and I want PeterK to answer my questions and give his opinions on this, as he is against Argentina imports playing for Aust/NZ/South African sides it seems if you read his posts above. I want both countries in for now, but not long term but for now I want both. If you read above i'm posing the questions and asking for answers of peterK, not the one giving the opinion in the 2nd post, read before you reply tc it might help you.
