[VIDEO] Carlton Blues vs Melbourne Demons: AFL live scores, blog, highlights

By Alan / Roar Guru

The Carlton Blues and Melbourne Demons will be eager to get their premiership campaign back on track when the two teams clash this afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1.45pm (AEST).

After a poor start to the season, Carlton and Melbourne find themselves in 15th and 18th position on the AFL ladder respectively. Although the season is only several rounds old, both sets of fans’ hope of premiership or finals glory are quickly slipping away.

Carlton have had a tough opening to the season, squaring off against finals contenders Richmond, Port Adelaide and Essendon. Their 81-point drubbing at the hands of Essendon last week is the latest defeat in a losing span now stretching four matches.

Carlton though finally have a good opportunity to return to winning ways when they clash against fellow struggler Melbourne.

Paul Roos’ men are coming off a 32-point loss to GWS and a 93-point thrashing at the hands of West Coast two weeks ago.

Currently on a five match losing streak, it’s hard to see Melbourne registering a win against a Carlton outfit that has had the wood over them for six seasons now.

Melbourne has not defeated Carlton since 2007, and while Carlton are hardly setting the world on fire, the Blues remain a good chance of clinching their first win of the season this afternoon.

Carlton though simply cannot rely on recent history to beat Melbourne. On form, the Blues have been terrible to say the least and their ball usage is now ranked as the worst in the competition.

Prediction
Carlton’s kicking out of defence has been poor so far this season and is an area that will need to be rectified if they are to finally register their first win of the year.

Carlton by 36.

Carlton were a disgrace losing against a team with such low expectations. Missing goals and there kicking was very poor.first time ever that when mick m has ever coached and lost 4 games in a row at the start of a season. Ps come on blues!

Agree. Watching Richmond last night, I got the feeling that they could turn things around but Carlton is in real trouble. Dare I say it, but they were playing bruise free footy out there today.

Congratulations Melbourne, a well deserved and earned win, you outworked the opponent and wanted it more. Here's to hoping this can be the start of something. While not the best forward in the game Dawes certainly helped Melbourne's structures out and gave everything he had. Props to Paul Roos also, the switch of Frawley and Howe has injected a bit of life into the team and the players.

Melbourne off and running in season 2014 after beating Carlton by 23 points today. Carlton started well enough with two quick goals and dominated the first quarter but Melbourne hung in well and then assumed control of the contest from the second quarter onwards. Jones, Frawley and Dawes best on ground for the Demons in particular. Carlton with a 0-4 start to the season now. Another tough week coming up. Thanks for your company today and join us next time for more AFL action on The Roar.
