[VIDEO] Perth Glory vs Brisbane Roar highlights: A-League scores, blog

By billyelliott / Roar Guru

MATCH RESULT:

An unlikely 3-2 win for Perth sees them on top of the A-League after two games. It didn’t look pretty but they’ll be happy after coming from behind twice to beat reigning premiers Brisbane.

Where to next for Brisbane? They were much improved on last week but couldn’t put the game to bed which is always dangerous in Perth.

FINAL SCORE:
Perth Glory 3
Brisbane Roar 2

MATCH PREVIEW:

The Perth Glory returned from the Distance Derby with all three points, while the Brisbane Roar were beaten convincingly in the first round of the A-League, both sides will be looking to improve when they meet in Perth on Sunday. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5:00pm (AEDT).

Kenny Lowe has rebuilt his squad and is looking to impose a free-flowing footballing philosophy on the Glory in his first full season in charge. They certainly got off to the best start possible last week against the Phoenix.

Perth, the league’s oldest club, have never quite lived up to their potential in the 10 years of the A-League, could this be the year that glory returns to the west?

The Roar on the other hand looked a shadow of the side that won the league so convincingly last season against a classy Adelaide side.

Don’t think for a moment the Glory haven’t watched the tape of the Roar being outplayed and out-muscled by the resurgent Reds.

Of course Brisbane will be without Matt McKay, who pays the price for running his mouth, serving the first of a two-game suspension. Adam Sarota comes back into the squad along with Kofi Danning.

Without doubt, the biggest loss for Brisbane is the absence of Michael Theo, who will remain on the sidelines for at least another two months.

The Glory look to be unchanged from the side that beat Wellington. New signings Youssouf Hersi, Andy Keogh, Richard Garcia and Diogo Ferreira, along with ex-Roar midfielder Mitch Nichols, will be looking to impress fans in the Glory’s first home game of the season.

For so long the competition benchmark, is this the season the rest of the A-League catch-up to Brisbane? Expect Perth to be tough to beat in the west and inflict more pain on the reigning champions.

Credit Kenny Lowe, the switch of Marinkovic off for Maclaren on at half-time had exactly the desired effect. Early and decisive substitution, really blew my skirt up.

I must be dreamin' Paddy. Andy Keogh to be sure, scores 3 goals in 2 games and its top of the A-League to ya Perth in all their glory. And who's that tailed off last - well, its last year's top 2 and both of last season's grand finalists, the Roar and the Wanderers. Aye, you've always got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your father was Paddy. If you want praise, work hard. If you want to blame someone, get married.

The bright start and the form of Keogh should help bolster the belief of the Glory faithful. Who knows, even the much maligned Kenny Lowe may garner some grudging respect as the season progresses.

I blame the blood moon for upsetting the natural order of the A league.

Only R2, but ALeague season results going to plan - Brisbane & WSW at the end of the ladder I expected. The only surprise has been MelbCity not winning today. In fact, Caravella should have put them away - shocking miss.

I blame the Lang Park pitch in May for the current A-League table.

Late late chance for Solorzano lands safely into Vokuvic's hands. And that's it. An unlikely 3-2 win for Perth sees them on top of the league after two games. It didn't look pretty but they'll be happy after coming from behind twice to beat reigning premiers Brisbane. Where to next for Brisbane? They were much improved on last week but couldn't put the game to bed which is always dangerous in Perth. What did you think of the game?

90+3' Keogh smashes his header down into the ground and it bounces up and over Brattan's head on the post. Andy Keogh will be the new darling of Perth with 3 goals in 2 games for his new side. 3-2

90' Brattan picks up a yellow card for the studs up challenge. When will players learn?? Perth win a throw close to the byline. Garcia wins the corner off Broich. Is this moment for the Glory to snatch a late (unlikely) winner? Corner lofted in by Jamieson and would you believe it Andy Keogh has scored! What a header. 3-2

89' Both sides pushing for a winner late in the game. But struggling to create the space necessary. Vukovic with a long bomb up field. Played out by Brisbane through Brattan. Looks like there'll be four minutes of added time. 2-2

76' Risdon outmuscles Broich who tries to put Maclaren through but Smith covers and it's out for a Glory throw. Brisbane take the opportunity to make their first change. Goal scorer Kurtishi off for Solarzano. The equaliser has brought Perth and the crowd back to life. 2-2

74' Out of nowhere Perth Glory equalise again. RIsdon comes forward, puts a nice ball through for Keogh who turns the Roar defence and his shot is deflected in by Donachie. Donachie scores his second own-goal in a week. Have to feel for the guy. Left his goalkeeper stranded with a deflection off his arm. 2-2
