Roar Radio is back: listen in to the Australia vs Pakistan Test series live

By The Roar / Editor

With no radio coverage in Australia of the Test cricket series against Pakistan, we’ve decided to jump into the breach with a live radio broadcast – just like we did last year in the Australia-India series.

Roar Radio will deliver ball-by-ball coverage of the next two Test matches against Pakistan, combining strong analysis with The Roar‘s irreverent style.

Some of The Roar’s finest cricketing minds will come together on the project. Expert columnist and broadcaster Geoff Lemon will lead a rotating panel of talent, including 21-year ABC veteran Glenn Mitchell, and fellow Roar columnists Ben Pobjie, Ryan O’Connell, Brett McKay, Tim Renowden, as well as popular cricketing twitterer Cat Jones and a host of special guests.

Why are we doing this? There’s a need out there for some quality cricketing broadcasting and analysis. With the ABC not covering the games, it leaves those without Pay TV with very limited options for getting their cricket fix.

On top of that, we’re trying to do it a little differently than the ABC. Glenn Mitchell will be let loose to crack jokes at the expense of… well… everybody, and it’s not going to be all drives through cover-point and hoicks over midwicket. There will be some jokes sprinkled in, and some proper analysis from real cricket heads.

There’s nothing in it for us other than spreading the good word of Test cricket to the masses via an audio stream. We’re just hoping that the results for our lads aren’t what they were against India last year, otherwise Roar Radio might be considered the kiss of death.

So listen in, enjoy, tweet about it, Facebook it, and tell your mates. You can contact the guys @RoarLive as well as through Suneer Chowdary’s live blog and score updates of the game on The Roar. We’ve got you covered.

Great work guys! Thanks very much for this. What a treat to hear Glenn Mitchell commentating again -- and I don't mean that as any kind of slight against the others, I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality all around.

Thank goodness for the Roar! The dearth of cricket audio coverage is very distressing. Understandable given how greedy the ACB got that the ABC should pick up its microphone and go home, but very bad for the game. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face, and now that ABC Grandstand is cosying up with the A league instead, cricket's profile at home just gets worse and worse. Good on you guys for filling the gap so ably.

Fantastic! Roar Radio helped to take the edge off the disaster in India. Let's hope that this time we can hear you commentate a victory (perhaps next test...) Keep up the great work.

Thanks gents! Really appreciate the coverage. I'm pretending to work in London while listening. I have tickets to the first Ashes test at Cardiff. Should I be worried given the ordinary way we are playing in this game? Cheers

Guys - i really appreciate this coverage. I am an avid cricket follower and as I sit here in Uzbekistan (i am a teacher in an International school) reading and proofreading reports this helps pass the time. Thanks a million

Ben, love your work in the Age. And great to hear your voice on radio again Glenn. But can you get a new mic? Sounds like you're calling from the bottom of a dunny :)

A side issue guys - can you also stream in some audience noise - applause, chants, groans etc? Just to make it SEEM there is a crowd at the ground? Is there any spectators watching this test?
