Announcment of an announcement the Cherry on top for Daly

By Hayley Maher / Roar Pro

The Daly Cherry-Evans saga is officially out of control! On Tuesday night he made an announcement to announce that an announcement is imminent.

DCE is being ill advised by his manager and it’s making him look bad.

As a player manager it’s your job to get as much money for your client and that is what Gavin Orr is trying to do. However I don’t understand the way he’s going about it.

DCE is a big enough star that this doesn’t need to be done so publicly. Orr doesn’t need to drum up the media to create interest, there’s already plenty of interest.

If I was a Manly fan, player or staff member, I’d like to see DCE preparing for the season. What I don’t want to see is my star player visiting other clubs to discuss something that’s a year away. DCE’s manager should taking care of that instead of using his client as bait.

Instead of preparing for the first game of the season in just over a week, DCE is out lunching with other clubs. This is not a good look and seems very disrespectful towards Manly.

For a long time there’s been talk of player unrest due to the lengths the club has gone to to keep their star playmakers. Could this latest drama be the last straw? Could this be the end of the Manly Dynasty?

Manly is a club that thrives on a siege mentality. The problem now is that the issues are coming from internal sources, not external. I’m not sure they can survive that.

Time will tell whether this has affected the playing group. I’m tipping it’s going to be hard for them to get up and play for each other this season.

I think we have seen the end of the Manly Dynasty.

Ha ha ha ha Didn't think I'd actually have to outline your error in detail but here it is: The year is currently 2015, now 2015 - 30 = 1985. OK, I know that's confused you a little, but stay with me, 1985 was BEFORE 1987, therefore, and this is where it gets real tricky, 1987 occurred WITHIN the last 30 years. Apart from that, you say 2 = 12????? Maths....ya kinda suck at it!

i am Sharks fan.. but in all honesty his best decisions are to re sign with Manly or head to Cronulla. - Manly and Cronulla are both beach sorta areas. - Both have similar sides, grunt forward pack and skill full backs but Manly being more experienced But id love to see him at Cronulla with Ben Barba! with Holmes at fullback! Gagan and Feki wings, Leutele/Beale/Bird centres! what a classy but young back line to have outside of him, and him being the leader of them! He is still young and so are they! They could build something at Cronulla and probably a Winning Premiership team. Also i think when Lewis, Heington, Gallen, Tagatese, Tupou, retire.. Docker, Taumalolo, Josh Jackson, and Josh Maguire should be on the wish list.

Mosto...champion.....'87 isnt in 30 years...you're fudging the maths..its 3 in 30..finishing 2nd is like finishing 12th,does nothing for a 'dynasty'.... Research facts ?There they are..Where do you give credit to other sides I can't see it... You post arrogance and you're setting yourself up for digs...Did I miss something in a) or b) ? Good luck with Mason and Burgess..

All clubs have a dip, Manly just have been better at reinventing themselves, location/lifestyle probably helps a lot as well.

So tired of the death riding of Manly ... The fact is that the side has been a powerhouse for well over a decade now despite most sections of the media and knuckleheads from other clubs keep praying for the big fall. Foran may be gone, DCE may follow but neither were there before they were developed by the Club in 2011. So what?? I hope that both boys enjoy their new chosen clubs and I wish them the very best luck with finding anything like the success they have had with Manly, they'll need it if where they are reported to be going is accurate!!

Will it be the end of the Manly dynasty? Well I'm not sure about that. I am in no way a Manly supporter but, over the years the club has been stable even through tough times, & the loss of players, but one of their strengths had been, just like some other clubs was in recruiting from outside their own district. Sure Watmough & Stewart were juniors & now with other teams, one being all but shown the door the other for his own. Why should it hurt Manly to have lost them both especially with Watmough putting out some prized bagging of the club, when one considers the amount of ex Parramatta juniors Manly have signed over the years, & some of them airing their dirty linen about their problems & not being offered contracts at Parramatta. When I look at the overall scene in the NRL, a lot of the big clubs have bought their way into a dynasty, Roosters, Dogs, Souths, & Cronulla are trying that way now as well. To me i would love to see Manly with a fair junior league & some good players there develop those & use them as the basis for their future. I believe that should be the same for all clubs, & perhaps the NRL could well look at the old 13 import rule again so that all the clubs are more focused in their own back yards. The likes of Penrith & Wests, even Parramatta are still promoting their juniors but complimenting them with key imports, rather than the other way round, & that's how it should be, but even more than is happening. Never give up on your club even in lean times. As a Parramatta supporter & ex club member whose dad was a foundation worker for Parra, I saw them win the comp, sadly my dad didn't by a couple of years, I sat through years of agony in more than one era, & I look to their rise again, so should you.

Manly's won it four times in last 30 champ, 87, 96, 08, 11. Also made 8 GF's in that time compared to Broncos 6. I also didn't suggest other clubs don't have a winning culture, just that Manly does. I respect clubs like Broncos, Bulldogs, Roosters etc that have a history of consistent success, just as Manly do. Not sure where you plucked the 30 yr timeline from. When referring to dynasties it usually means current generation. In the last 8 years, Manly's won two GF, and been in 4. Making the GF every other year would be deemed a successful era by most measures. So if you're going to have a dig with your replies, a) research your facts, b) keep references to what was actually in the original comment rather than imply ideas that were never there. Good luck for the season

Well Foran took your advice and buggered off. Hopefully DCE does the same. Manly are well overdue for a wooden spoon.

Player agents are not the problem. Instead the NRL must sort out this issue and grow a pair, bring in a transfer window immediately... that means now. Additionally over the course of the next 2 seasons investigate the benefits of a draft and focus on how we can have a draft that doesn't reward mediocrity so that the NRL avoids the "tanking" stink.

'Dynasty' ?...Manly have won it 3 times in 30 years..why don't we refer to a Bronco 'dynasty' or a Bronco culture..they've won it 4 times in the same time span...Manly has culture but the other clubs....don't ? ..dribble..

The way both Foran and DCE (more so) are treating their team mates and fans is appalling! How does toovey prepare his team? What do the players and fans think watching this soap opera? Surely DCE is gone, the sooner the better for Manly!

Which older disgruntled players will move on? The only two remaining are brett stewart who is contracted for 2 more years, and Steve Matai who recently extended. What are you on about?

I don't normally agree with a parra supporter being a manly nut, but you are 100% spot on. Something needs to be done about this whole area. It stinks.

I don't really mind what he's done. At least he appears to be honest about it all rather than doing the old "secret" lunches, and the such.

Can't blame the Cowboys. If that try was awarded last year I believe they would have gone on to win the premiership, I don't even think the Rabbits would have stopped them.

Nothing surer than you'd bite on that comment EJ. I think manly have had commendable loyalty from the majority of their squad over a decade and that's been despite rumours every year that it was about to fall apart. it's almost as if EJ tipped off the CCC to the Gold Coast Titan's mad monday activities to remove the Titans as a threat to DCE? I've always held the view that player agents are a blight on the game but a necessary evil with the high percentage of dumbos who seem to be good footy players. all they care about is their 10-15% and couldn't care less where the player earns it. We've seen a ludicrous situation where an agent has 2 good fullbacks on the books and shops around so they're not at the same club, despite their wishes. No agent before turning 18 and no contract before that age is the best way to go. Maybe what is really needed is a rich kids version of the income management strategies being used for the welfare recipients in NT. Then we might not have legends of the game unemployable and crying poor like Ray price a few years back. DCE will end up staying, Foran will unfortunately be lost and some older disgruntled players will move on. Maybe there's a stage where that's a good thing so the Sea Eagles can rebuild?
