Swedish defender commits ridiculous dive, leaves opponent in stiches

By The Roar / Editor

Swedish defender Andreas Johansson has committed one of the most absurd attempts to draw a free kick ever witnessed on a football field.

The incident occurred during a match between Norrkoping and AIK in the Swedish top tier.

As AIK’s striker Mohamed Bangura raised his arm to signal for the ball from a throw-in, Johansson saw the opportunity to stage for a free.

Johansson approached his opponent from behind, causing his head to make contact with Bangura’s raised arm. Upon contact, Johansson hit the ground like a sack of potatoes tossed off the back of a truck, writhing in pain, two hands covering his clearly uninjured face.

The ridiculousness of the attempt was then perfectly summed up by Bangura, who upon realising what his opponent had attempted, broke out in uncontrollable laughter.

And of course, Johansson was quick to return to his feet once he realised he had fooled absolutely no one.

lol, Reminds me of that one in the 2002 or 2006 World Cup when the opponent lightly underarms the ball to Rivaldo I think it was for Brazil to take a corner, bally lightly hits his knee and he goes down clutching his face

Correct, it is a stain in the game. The issue is first to discuss as a negative of the game with non-football nations. Everyone else takes it for granted and concentrates on the football. The Australian response in turn is to say 'that's why it will never take off in this country' So yes, would be great to get rid of it, but what is the real reason for those in this country that never talk about the football as they are only imterested in this subject.

But it was because he pointed at some fat white girl who was giving some banter.

I would like to know if any action was taken against Johansson. That is apart from the embarrassment of being seen around the world.

Yep ...that and the fact that the eds themselves felt the need to initiate this particular piece of click bait / code war fluff.....but that must be my futbol paranoia acting up.

it's ridiculous isn't it. a blatant term used only in AFL, not in league or union either, is used in a football article.

What does "stage for a free" mean. In 50 yrs as a football fan I've never heard that said...in football.

As absurd and ridiculous as this is, I'm not sure it would win first prize.

And here I was thinking Adam Goodes was booed nationwide because he likes to "stage" for freekicks? If play acting doesn't occur in other codes then is he is booed because of his skin colour?

It's not absurd if it works again and again, and again, and again and again.

Soccer: 90 minutes pretending you're hurt. All other football: 80 minutes pretending you're not. Nuff said.

Something that blatant in an attempt to get an opponent sent off? I'd go for a game suspension as a start, then double for each subsequent offence. But then, I'm pretty sick of diving...

Why shouldn't a boy in Australia play soccer because of a guy in Sweden who is a clown?
