Shaun Ainscough has become an internet sensation for all the wrong reasons, after his stunning mistake following the siren cost his team victory.
Playing in the second tier of English rugby league (one below Super League), struggling Batley was up 26-22 in the dying seconds against the more fancied Featherstone Rovers.
Rovers, who needed to travel 90 metres just to draw the game, decided to kick and hope for the best.
Ainscough caught the ball as the siren sounded. At this point he could have run the ball out to the near sideline, kicked it out on the near sideline or more traditionally he could have just taken a hit up and surrendered in the tackle.
All these calm decisions would have ended the game.
Instead, Ainscough appeared to try and boot the ball to the far side.
As soon as he kicked the ball he realised what he’d done and raced back to try and field it – but too late.
The ball bounced perfectly back to a Rovers player, who strolled in to score.
To make matters worse, the Batley Bulldogs are not yet safe from relegation in the English system and needed a win to have some breathing space.
On any other day Ainscough would have been the hero, having scored two tries in the game.

I saw this on TV on one of the evening shows, it's quite funny. It reminds me of when the Australian womens swimming relay team one a final, but a couple of the girls decided to jump into the water for a premature celebration, with others still finishing the race, meaning they were disqualified.

That deserves the Paul Carige Award in perpetuity.

Oh no!! I've actually been here. But our winger managed to clean up for me, and we were ahead by like 20 points. Still, even that took some getting over.
