Hayne likely to be benched for the second straight game

After being made ‘inactive’ against the Seattle Seahawks, Jarryd Hayne looks likely to stay on the sidelines against the St Louis Rams on Monday morning (AEDT).

Hayne, who fumbled a punt return against Baltimore on October 18 made way for Reggie Bush against the Seahawks. Bush had just one opportunity for a punt return against Seattle for nine yards as well as 21 rushing yards.

In a blow for the Australian’s chances of returning to the side, Special Teams Coach Thomas McGaughey backed Bush at a press conference.

“I feel very comfortable with it [Bush at Punt Return],” McGaughey said.

“As long as Reggie feels comfortable, I feel comfortable. We have just got to do a better job of sustaining our blocks and give him a little room to work with.”

Hayne had played the first six games of the season, averaging 9.5 yards per punt return. Some 49ers fans and media outlets feel Hayne has been unfairly treated and should be given more of a chance considering San Francisco’s season to date.

Bay Area Sportscaster Steve Berman is certainly in his corner and claims more successful teams like Seattle would have Hayne playing.

“Hayne is one of the few dynamic players on this moribund roster, but the 49ers don’t trust him,” Berman said.

“Yes, he’s fumbled a couple of punts and isn’t a pure running back. But the 49ers have shown no creativity either. When Pete Carroll was asked by a 49ers beat writer about the Seahawks’ interest in Hayne earlier this week, he was damn near drooling into the phone.”

“Seattle’s offence is nothing special, but it’s almost guaranteed that they’d be using Hayne in all kinds of situations that the 49ers coaching staff couldn’t even fathom.”

Just read in this mornings news that he has now been officially cut from the 49ers playing roster. Not a bad thing in my opinion, absolutely being wasted at SF however I'm sure Hayne isn't feeling great about it at the moment, I'm hoping the Seahawks snap him up.

Might as well cut him. Should have chosen the better team - Hawks. Hawks used Byron Walters last season and he sucks, couldn't run a metre. Of course we got Lockett now, but Hayne would add an extra option and could be used in other ways. He's playing under a noob coach, poor decision.

49ers are just wasting his talent. Ive seen seasoned team mates make far more mistakes & retain their spot. Seems Hayne is a possible scapegoat? Or just not given the chance to breakout in a very structured game?

You'd like him to do well, though, wouldn't you?

I'm beginning to wonder if the Aussie media is getting frustrated at Hayne being benched because they can't go off the handle & wax lyrical about how he's going to be the next greatest thing in NFL. I feel sorry for Hayne. He's busting his gut just to win acceptance in a sport he's never played before. And here's the Aussie media making a big deal of it because basically they only care about selling news, not the man.
