Eels star Kieran Foran granted indefinite leave from football

By The Roar / Editor

Parramatta star recruit and club captain Kieran Foran has been given an indefinite leave of absence from the club over personal issues.

The full Eels’ statement read as follows:

“The Parramatta Eels have granted Kieran Foran an indefinite leave of absence to seek the best possible medical treatment regarding a personal matter.

“The club will be making no further comment and request that the media respect Kieran’s privacy at this time.”

At this stage, the speculation is that Foran could miss a number of weeks of football, after the star has missed training this week. Foran is also believed to have spent time in hospital, explaining his absence from club duties.

It will likely see him not take his place in the Kiwis side in next week’s Trans-Tasman Test match.

Daily Telegraph scooper Phil Rothfield has the mail that Foran has been struggling with personal issues around his relationship.

Rothfield also says that his teammates were unaware of how seriously Foran was being affected by his issues.

The 25-year-old, known as a composed player and leader on the field, has shown no sign of personal struggles on the paddack as he’s lifted the Eels to fifth place on the NRL Ladder, with five wins from eight games.

Without him, the Eels have looked a different side.

His switch of club and position (to halfback) has been nothing but a success on the field, but off it seems like a different story.

The response from fans of the club and the game has been immediate.

The Roar wishes Kieran the best during what is a difficult time.

Well for starters there was allegations of domestic violence, yes they were later proved to be incorrect, however initially that was the story that was being told.

In 6 yrs of sitting outside family courts I became more than aware of the numbers of men who take their own lives as a result of the biased agenda driven spiteful family courts .

It's ridiculous what these players and their families put up with nowadays. SKD was practically declared guilty and punished by the media and premier before the ink was wet on the charges. Boyds wife was absolutely blasted on social media for leaving her 10 day old baby with her mother while she went to the GF to support her husband. What happened to Te'o was probably one of the most shocking cases of journalism I've seen rivalled only by Smiths treatment from the kidnapping advocates at 60 minutes. Now they've sunk to a new low. A bloke has checked into hospital after his relationship has fallen apart, and all news outlets want to do is pour on more negative spin. He's been "stood down", no he hasn't. The guy is in hospital ffs.

Never said I wanted it, but made the point that they more than likely won't respect his privacy.

I'll admit that. It's irrelevant but I'll admit it. It still doesn't have anything to do with any sort of indictment on women in league round. I genuinely hope she is coping ok and not in any distress herself but let's be honest before yesterday none of us would have even known her name or if we'd walked past her in the street. Regardless of how distant, we've had a relationship with Foran for the past five years or so and I daresay he's a figure in rugby league who is respected by most people. This is a rugby league website and we're upset that a rugby league player is unwell. That doesn't mean that people have ill will towards his partner. So a) this story is about Foran b) he is unwell c) we care about him d) we don't know her and e) there's no suggestion at the moment that she's unwell. So no wonder there's no outpouring on her behalf. To suggest that postive comments and well wishes to Foran is any sort of sad indictment on women in league is silly.

Point taken Barry, as long as you meet me half way and admit that you wouldn't know if she was hospitalised or not. She's not the celebrity here and her personal life isn't on the news. Bit fast on the judgement pedal mate.

Yeah all those people out there with mental illness in that "tough old world" need to just "toughen up" - yeah right ... easy fix. One of the biggest mistakes that a mentally ill person can make in my opinion is to "just battle on" as you say.

Are Cyndi Lauper and Debbie Harry pre Madonnas? Foran plays a sport where he gets physically tortured week in week out. Pushes his body to the limit. He's in the middle of a pay dispute, he's got the responsibility of being the star player and captain of his team. He's got the salary cap dramas hanging over his head, his relationship has broken down and one of his kids is sick. Sounds like a pretty tough situation to me. Do you think dollars make those stressors disappear?

I get 14 and it accrues. Next he'll be going to the doctor when he gets the flu...what a wuss. You had six years off all unpaid? What did you do for money?

Yes 9 days per year not and endless stream and in some cases its not uncommon for a level of resentment to be displayed once those days have been taken , and in my case all unpaid to attend 6 yrs of the crap. No psychiatric help, no player support groups , no welfare , absolutely FA . These guys have it pretty good .

Sounds like a cakewalk in comparison to a vindictive , anti male , police supported , child neglecting Australian family court . If the guys kids are crook my heart goes out to him as any parent knows the feeling of helplessness in that situation . It's my opinion that these guys are quite often pri madonnas. It's a tough old world out there and there are thousands of people doing it a thousand times tougher than them all day everyday and they just battle on and get through it, and I hope he does.

My point of view is "hope he gets help and better". It is clearly a last straw , camels back situation. He has sick kid , relationship gone south, salary cap scandal , new club captain on mega bucks high expectations. These seem to be the "known" issues then there is all the rumours. Jesus no wonder he has gone off the edge. "Good luck Kieron" is all I have to say. Indirectly related does this not make the Norman negotiation a little harder.

I think they should try Jordan Rapana at fullback. He's killing it at the Raiders from the wing but has played fullback for them before.
