Foran overdosed on prescription medication, was rushed to hospital

By The Roar / Editor

The unfortunate extent of Kieran Foran’s issues have been revealed, with the Parramatta Eels captain reportedly taken to hospital after overdosing on prescription medicine earlier this week.

Fairfax Media are reporting Foran “was rushed to St Vincent’s hospital in Darlinghurst after suffering an adverse reaction to medication he has been taking.”

Fairfax say there is no suspicion of Foran’s incident bearing resemblance to that of Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray at the end of last NRL season.

Foran was absent from duty for part of this week, having been struggling with personal problems, and has since been granted indefinite leave from football by the Eels.

This comes on the back of Foran dealing with the breakdown of his relationship with his partner Rebecca Pope, with whom he has two children.

Foran is also said to be battling with former club the Manly Sea Eagles over payments owed to him, to the tune of $140,000.

Speaking at a press conference, Parramatta CEO John Boulos said, “Most of [Foran’s] teammates knew there was an issue.

“We’re going to give him some time away from the game to get himself better. It’s a very private issue for Kieran. He’s someone we need at our club.

“Moving forward Kieran will be given as much time as he wants and needs to get right.

“All I know is he’s getting help and he has some wonderful people around him. He’s got some personal problems … he needed help and put his hand up.”

None of these issues were apparent in Foran’s on-field performances, with the Kiwi star a pillar of success during the Eels’ 5-3 start to the NRL season.

As far as a return to football goes, reports have variously stated between three weeks and a month, but Boulos said, “I won’t put a time frame on [his return], this is a decision for Kieran.”

The Roar wishes Kieran Foran all the best during this difficult time.

I think Australia and Japan have the highest illicit drug prices in the world. So I think a lot of people go to get a hit out of prescription drugs because of those high prices. They underestimate how powerful these drugs are, and I think because there is less of a high they will take more and overdose. The other point that interest me about such drug price differentials is how the media have crucified Schappelle Corby, when its 100% certain that there is no reason to take drugs to Bali from Australia, and this part of the proof. If a NRL player was in Bali he wouldn't have taken prescription medicine, it would be something else.

So he didn't OD like Gray & Walker, he just had an adverse effect of taking too many & they snuck him in the back door of the hospital so no one would recognise him, all sounds a bit sus to me.

But is it an overdose or an adverse reaction ? There's a massive difference between one and the other .

The Roar needed to allow this to b reported in a credible way, after that The Roars duty is to monitor our discussion about what we perceive as happening. It's responsibility is to allow further discussion without insightful rumor between sports lovers enforcing factually based discussions. I logged on to find out if the $140k owed to Foran is not being paid due to salary cap pressure's now faced by the sea eagle's & their limited ability to attract TPA's. Good luck Kieran, I know all here at the Magpie's wish u well.

It's disheartening to see things like this happen to anyone let a lone such a promising young star, I think the club is going about it the right way and he should be given his own time and space to recover from what is a debilitating issue. Let's hope for the rugby league communities, and most of all his own sake, that he gets better and finds a way out of whatever dark place he's fallen into.

That must be devastating for Kieran with all the other troubles that are stacked upon him. All I can say is to wish him a speedy recovery and lets hope that he regains his composure and gets back on track, this is especially after his split from his partner, which is the most devastating when there are children involved and takes a very long time to get over.

Happy to only read the Roar. They present just enough to understand the seriousness of the issue, without any judgement or sensationalism. Get well Kieran, there will be better times ahead.
