Match preview:

This Saturday night game sees the Reds playing the Cheetahs from Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Join The Roar from 7:45pm (AEST) for all the live scores and commentary on the action.

Unfortunately, both of these sides appear out of the running to push for playoff spots this season and neither side can bring any immediate recent form to the table but we still have what promises to be an exciting and open match-up this evening.

This shapes as a classic encounter between two very different styles, the speed of the Cheetahs versus the power of the Reds, particularly in the backlines.

The Reds will look to build on their impressive set piece and they will favour themselves against a Cheetahs side with a sporadic set piece. This will allow the Reds to unleash their big ball runners, in particular Samu Kerevi at centre and Eto Nabuli to wreak havoc on the Cheetahs defence.

The onus will be placed on the Reds’ halves, Nick Frisby and Jake McIntyre, to control the game with the platform their forwards should be able to provide and keep the Cheetahs pinned in their own half however execution will be key as offering up soft counter attacking opportunities to the likes of Sergeal Petersen will have the Reds chasing shadows all night.

With the likes of Petersen and Raymond Rhule for the Cheetahs, pace is where their obvious strength lies and we can expect plenty of ball movement from the Cheetahs this evening while the pack will need a strong performance from Lodewyk de Jager in the Cheetahs pack against a solid Reds pack.

A match up to keep an eye on will be between two of the opposing wings, Petersen and Nabuli. A mouth-watering clash this promises to be and hopefully both players will have several opportunities with ball in hand.

Another key match-up will be between de Jager and the Reds Rob Simmons, the two locks pivotal to their respective sides overall performance and in particular the set piece while Reds fans will be hoping for another standout performance from openside Liam Gill and potentially, another drop goal.

Join me here on The Roar as I cover all of the action live from Suncorp and feel free to drop in your comments below as the match unfolds.

Tip – Reds by 12. I feel the Reds will have too much power out wide for the Cheetahs to control.

Had a great time at Suncorp. Small but happy crowd partied to the max. A win really makes it a great night out. Who cares about the rugby, it's a silly competition in 2016.

You did this, Diggercane, over at your call of the Highlanders vs Brumbies. I reckon it is a sign of fatigue. After an hour and a half match-calling-fatigue has taken over and your fingers will type just anything - random capitals, lots of dots, disconnected hallucinatory phrases and words - in the hope of some respite. You may be able to successfully sue Spiro and his lot for unconscionable employer demands, earning a handsome offer to settle, reluctantly, on the steps of the Supreme Court. Or just enough to shout your readers a beer. ;)

Scrappy game, made worse by an incompetent whistle happy ref. A couple good tries by both teams to make the highlights package look better than the game was

Dan, K.Hunt was steady, dependable, a couple of nice runs and good defence. Didn't do any massive runs but was involved in one long range try with S.Kerevi. Kerevi a definite for the WB although he came off and was sobbing on the bench so might have a bad injury to his arm or shoulder. I hope not as he is our most dangerous #13 at present.

Maybe he had a bet with a mate that he could give at least 2 yellows on the night.
