The Manly Sea Eagles have a tough task ahead of them when they host the Penrith Panthers at Brookvale Oval. Join The Roar from 4pm (AEST) for live coverage.

Manly have been decimated by injury with Daly Cherry-Evans, Jamie Lyon and Brenton Lawrence all injured in last week’s 30-18 loss to the Raiders.

It was a night to forget for Silvertails fans as the green machine dominated for most of the game in the nation’s capital.

The loss of Cherry-Evans puts the home side in a precarious position with very little starpower in the halves.

Dylan Walker and Apisai Koroisau will pull on the No.6 and 7 jerseys respectively and will be tasked with the big job of steering the maroon and white.

Trent Barrett will require the pair to really step up against a strong Penrith Panthers side with the pair having shown signs of brilliance throughout the year.

Like the Sea Eagles, Penrith will also be undermanned in the halves with Jamie Soward dropped to the Intrust Super Premiership in a controversial move by coach Anthony Griffin.

Griffin has also dumped James Segeyaro to reserve grade with Nathan Cleary to join Bryce Cartwright in the halves.

The result may not have gone their way last week but the mountain men’s 24-6 loss to the Storm with Cleary adjusting to first grade football on debut.

The son of former coach Ivan will play a pivotal role for the Panthers and will be the focus of their attack.

The 18-year old will need to work with skipper Matt Moylan to provide some spark in attack and will also need to take the playmaking reigns on his own allowing Bryce Cartwright to play as an extra forward at standoff.

It will be a huge task for the rookie in just his second NRL game but one in which the former Australian Schoolboy will certainly be able to handle.

25 meetings have come between the two clubs since 1998. Of those encounters Manly have won 13 matches to Penrith’s twelve.

They met twice last year with the Panthers victorious on both occasions with 22-12 and 11-10 wins in rounds six and ten respectively.

Prediction
Penrith will be too good and defeat the Sea Eagles at Fortress Brookie.

Panthers by 10.

And go back a while, 2014 I think, with Penrith playing Brisbane in Brisbane. Three commentators - Vautin, Lewis and Lockyer. I swear that I didn't know who Brisbane was playing for about the first 10 minutes.

How many times will we hear about Manly being 'decimated' through injury, with the implication that they could not be expected to be competitive. Penrith were without Whare, Hiku, Martin and Fisher-Harris through injury, had no McKendry due to disciplinary action and no Segeyaro due to a poor choice of dinner partners, so they were hardly the full complement. But not a word about it in any media coverage. But out West one gets used to this sort of treatment. Earlier in the season McKendry is sidelined because he touched the referee, yet Thurston is let off for the same offence (video evidence demonstrates this). Then McKendry is sidelined due to a shoulder charge infringement against Melbourne, yet the Melbourne winger is cleared of the same offence then stopping a Penrith try due to apparent separation of the arm from the torso. Apparently, millimetres count. And in yet another 'wrong end of the decision-making process', Martin is put out for the season for a tackle OFF THE BALL; and the result - not even a penalty! It seems that the NRL just reinforces what the past 200 years has shown us - it's OK to put your rubbish out west; they don't count out there. There's obviously resentment at the temerity, all those years ago, of Penrith joining the main game; how dare they do that, and take away the ability of the city clubs to harvest all that talent nurtured out in the West.

Except that every commentator has an affiliation. Gus coached the Panthers, the Roosters and the Bulldogs. Stereo is Parramatta through and through. Johns, Fittler? They all have been part of certain clubs at times. How can you resent a small club like the Panthers finally getting a bit of airtime. Manly has plenty of supporters in the media and at the selection table. You don't suffer because of a lack of publicity or from games getting prime slots. If you were whinging about the Broncos, I could understand it, but the Panthers are lucky to get on TV twice a year. After your repeated comments about Gus, my one comment was an attempt to bring balance. English isn't the first language of many Roarers? Please explain.

Balance? With "Toughen up princess"?. I understand English isn't the first language of many who post on the Roar so I'll let that slide. I noticed that a few Broncos fans also had a problem with Gus telling us all game about the development of the Panthers, and what they are trying to build. It was like attending their AGM. If you can't see that having a General Manager of a club commentating on their game is an issue, then there is no point conversing with you.

Aw come on, you continually whinged about Gus and yet the rest of the commentary team was waxing lyrical about Manly and mentioning your injury toll every 20 seconds. I'm sure I heard Gus say several times "Penrith were dreadful". Just trying to inject a bit of balance.

Wow, this Manly team can lose from anywhere to anyone. Fortress Brookvale has become a romp for all comers. Obviously no answer this season and probably the next. To think I once agonised over whether we would retain DCE. Time to nuke from orbit. Get rid of everyone bar Trbojevics, Dylan Walker and Matt Parcell - if we can retain them. Then begin long rebuild to top eight placing in maybe 2020. Time to change the song from Eagle Rock to something from the Easybeats, which is what Manly has become. Perhaps 'Sad and Lonely and Blue'?

I cannot believe the video referees are looking at a 23inch computer monitor which makes the ball about 3 to 4mm in size when we are watching a 60 to 70 inch screens. Can not believe the decisions in the Manly game this afternoon #wrongwrongwrong.

Toughen up princess (Eagle Jack). You had a billion calls from the ref go your way, 80 minutes of sympathy calls from the commentators about your injuries and it was your home ground. You were playing a team full of rookies and you still lost with a 24 -4 head start. What more do you want?

When the game was on the line,Moylan was there..made some blues early...but here was your fullback leading from the front..had a hand in 2 tries,as did Carty..Brett Stewart was the polar opposite..when the team needed him to step up a la Moylan,he stepped down..

No way ! Panthers were ordinary early and had little possession. Everything went Manly's way with all the ball they had in the first half, so they had a comfortable half time lead. Penrith got a bit of possession in the second half and rightly as the much better team, steamrolled them late. Nothing else to see here ! Except Penrith's continuing inconsistent play this year, and Manly's awful run of injuries.

Hard to think of a player who had a more positive impact individually for their team than Walker, even if his second half wasn't great.

As crooked as a barrell of fish hooks. Manly have dead set thrown another game. The NRL must investigate this result.

I don't think Barrett is the right man to lead Manly. He is not a Manly person. Maybe Manly should catch up with Ivan Cleary for a chat. He was at the ground today watching his son putting on an impressive performance. Plus, Ivan did play for Manly.

Agree with Walker for the first half, but geez, not sure that half a game deserves three points. I'd find a point or two for Cartwright.

Would be interesting to see if there was a betting plunge on Panthers 1-12 at half time. Crazy stuff.
