Highlights: Genia, Cooper lead Wallabies to second win on the trot

The Wallabies scored three tries in the opening 12 minutes, and finished the match with five to their name in front of 16,202 fans.

Genia was influential throughout the contest, scoring two tries in a man-of-the-match performance.

Cooper was also critical in the result, setting up two tries with beautiful inside passes that cracked open Argentina’s defence.

But his good work was somewhat overshadowed by an ill-disciplined shoulder charge in the 66th minute.

Cooper was handed a yellow card after collecting Argentina’s flyhalf Nicolas Sanchez around the head off the play.

Wallabies back-rower David Pocock was subbed off in the 36th minute, but it was initially unclear whether it was an injury-related move, or merely tactical.

The Wallabies scored two early tries in their 29-15 win over Argentina in last year’s World Cup semi-final.

And it was a case of deja vu in Saturday’s re-match as the Wallabies went on an early rampage.

Outside centre Samu Kerevi started the onslaught, touching down after just 43 seconds following a scuffed clearance kick from Argentina.

Hometown hero Dane Haylett-Petty was the next to score following a well-worked lineout and a nice inside pass from Cooper.

And the score was 21-0 after 12 minutes following some magic from Genia.

He unleashed a heavy tackle to knock the ball loose from Sanchez, before soccering the ball forward.

The Wallabies’ scrumhalf outsprinted a Pumas defender to collect the ball and crash over the line.

Australian prop Scott Sio was sin-binned in the 33rd minute for foul play, but the Wallabies still entered halftime with a 21-6 lead.

However, there were a few nerves when Pumas winger Santiago Cordero scored in the 44th minute.

With the margin cut back to eight points, a boilover loomed.

But a barnstorming run from Sean McMahon changed all that.

McMahon bounced off four defenders to set up Genia for his second try in the 52nd minute.

And when Cooper unleashed a no-look inside ball to set up Michael Hooper’s try in the 64th minute, the margin had blown out to 20 points and it was as good as game over.

The Wallabies have won two games on the trot after beating South Africa 23-17 last week in Brisbane.

Mate, when even Gordon Bray AND Matt Burke are calling it a good try, it really is time to take your toys home and buck up a bit. What would you have been like if they'd lost?? You're Stephen Moore's brother aren't you ......

Folau lacked judgement plenty of times last night too.

Exactly. What happened to Genia was exactly the same situation and not even a look at it. Sanchez is a serial diver and last night was a classic example once again. Not in the spirit of the game whatsoever.

But to stay in reality check the contact on Genia in a chip-chase. Then get back to me after you have actually watched the match.

Don't worry Neil. The Nigerian that promised to send you the money says it is still on its way.

'Same contact happens many times every match' Well, no it didn't and no it doesn't. But what does happen pretty frequently is old Quady being shown yellow; he's got quite a history and usually for silly or sneaky stuff. He knew exactly what he was doing and how to make it look like he wasn't. I just love the fact that the 'faithful no matter what' are managing to blame Sanchez and not just one but two officials. Just like overprotective mums who can see nothing wrong in their progeny. It's really quite sweet.

Exactly. This what bothered me. It's the type of contact that happens multiple times a game. Cooper is well within his rights to make contact holding the defensive line.

I didn't say he played badly. He may well have had his best test. If we want a barging centre, then he fills the role but I don't see him as an intuitive player who reads the game well or knows how to create. The commentators picked him up twice for lacking judgment - once in attack and once for coming in on defence when he shouldn't have. Appreciate I'm making a tough call but it's not based on last night alone. I would still like to see a Hodge - Folau centre pairing.

So I presume that when the big pommy dummy runners in the back line make contact with an opposition player and they flop all over the floor your opinion will be consistent? That will make rugby a great game. Maybe you should head on over to the soccer thread? Same contact happens many times every match. Sanchez saw an opportunity to milk a penalty. The fact it got a yellow as well is a reflection of the grandstanding, all singing, all dancing UK duo of Barnes and Owens need for attention.

What did Kerevi do wrong? He ran the most metres of any player. He made 4 tackles and missed none. He distributed well, passing 1/3 times and to players in a better position so read it well. His one kick was wobbly but the right idea at the time. If he is not test standard then only Genia, QC and Folau are in the backs.

for sure Cheika will play McMahon at 8 and perhaps drop Timani for Fardy. As I predicted Timani got very little time, despite this he had more impact than Mumm.

Yellow carding Cooper was a bad call by Barnes and Nigel Owens. Video reruns showed both players were rushing for the ball. At the last moment Cooper found he need not tackle but unable to stop the inertia of his movement and therefore crash into the opponent. Only a penalty and a warning would be the right call by the ref and did not deserve a yellow card. UNWARRANTED CALL BY BARNES FOR A YELLOW CARD.

Can't agree. Copper had never been above the sneaky hit or gang tackle when he's in no physical danger but still runs a mile from anything involving genuinely putting his body on the line when he can. Looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. The Argentinian should have gone too for going down like a footballer.

As a former critic of QC, I'm being as objective as I can and happy he seems to have "matured". The thing that makes me (and others) worry about him was highlighted in the 18th minute when he refused to dive on a loose ball - Foley did instead - and when the ball was recycled 20 seconds later he threw a terrible pass under pressure. No damage done in the end...this time. All that said, he deserves to retain his spot for now but all supporters can't complain when/if he does blow a gasket. Agree comments re McMahon and TPN. Worst game I've seen Folau play. I still don't think Kerevi and DHP are test standard players.

Agree totally. Not even a penalty. I was watching in a pub in Prague (sorry, had to say that)...walking past a pub wondering how the game was going, when I heard Phil Kearns dulcet tones on Sky Sports. Had to go in for a pilsener or two. Embarrassing that he is heard all over the world! Generally I like Wayne Barnes refereeing, but I think he overcalled that one.

Yeah Baby! Bit of a mixed bag. Folau really out of sorts and looks frustrated. Cooper good but tried a little too hard. He needs to go back to just distributing and under playing his hand. Genia is pure class and Adam Coleman is a beast. Whats with the needless kicking away of possession when we are on the front foot and making progress? Didn't see enough of Timani to have an impression except that he is physically imposing. Sean McMahon had an enormous impact, as did TPN. Hooper once again excellent. All in all a good win and we are building.........hopefully towards revenge in November at Twickers

Foley is a hack but he played a good game. Credit where it is due. Genia man of the match two weeks in a row. He and Quade are the premier halves pair in Australia. Great to watch. Quade unlucky to be carded. Two players run into each other and the one who doesn't fall down gets a card. Barnes whistle happy. TPN should start next game. Clearly the better player now. Didn't see enough of Timani to say one way or the other. Hope he gets more time. Same goes for Robertson. Pocock's gone now but surely McMahon isn't the answer at 8? I think he'll captain the Wallabies one day but he's not a test 8.

Barnes was truly appalling but the score flattered the Wallabies. Basic skill errors cost Argentina big time.

Gods/ great game by Quade and Genia. Liked the look of the backrow that ended the game and TPN added allot when he came on. Even though the team has won some surly he must be close to replacing Moore for a start. Their D won the game though as they just couldn't get their hands on the pill for most of the game

Yeah as I noted in the match thread, the only reason there were no arms was because he wasn't making a tackle as Sanchez never got the ball!
