Aaron Rodgers is your 2017 NFL MVP

By Xavier Paula / Roar Rookie

Who else deserves the NFL MVP award this season but Aaron Rodgers? Rodgers, who was devoid of a running game and defence the whole season, has been on a five-game winning streak.

After his bold prediction that his team would run the table, he has completed 71 per cent of his passes for over 1300 yards and 11 touchdowns (not one interception) through Week 16.

And, oh yeah, he leads the league in touchdowns and after tonight he did successfully run the table, winning another division title.

I don’t see any quarterback in the league who you can place in Rodgers’ shoes. Rodgers is simply his team’s most valuable player.

Tom Brady didn’t play the first four games of the season due to suspension and we have seen that New England’s back up quarterbacks have played admirably in his absence. The Patriots’ system keeps going strong as long as Bill Belichick is there.

Derek Carr will miss a game due to injury and owes some of his success to Oakland’s offensive line, which is second only to the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot’s successes are due in large part to their offensive line, talented receivers and each other. If Tony Romo were healthy he’d probably be having just as much success as Prescott.

As for Matt Ryan, he is not playing with the degree of difficulty and lack of resources that Rodgers has.

There are certain individuals whose talent can overcome the most difficult situations. Only individuals like LeBron James, Tom Brady and Rodgers can carry a team when necessary.

So there you have it, your 2017 MVP is Aaron Rodgers.

Zeke should get ROTY, I can't see him in the contest for MVP

But you can write of the 25% that Brady didn't play? Even as a Packers fan it's Matt Ryan for me.

I think it's fairly silly to talk about the quarterbacks for opposing teams "wining the match-up." They are NEVER on the field at the same time, so how can one beat the other? Any NFL game involves four or six entirely different teams. And I think it's sonehow sad that a player can spend his entire career, and be great at what he does, without once getting his hands on the actual football. Apart from which, I enjoy watching a good game, on record and replay. Have done since Montana and Rice.

You can't write off more than half a season. If so, Brady wins.

well, no - that's actually where it started He singlehandedly took the Pack from a losing season to the playoffs with no run game.

But that means the actual season is kind of irrelevant to who was the MVP for the season?

Come on the Rodgers got Chicago and Detroit. Arguing that games you light people up should be excluded is arguing against good play. The combined DVOA on passing for packer's Central opponents was north of 40, easily the worst division in the Nfl by a wide margin (after adding the packers). Arguing a weak pass defence in the division as a pro Rogers v Ryan point is like saying the browns struggled due to too much talent on the roster

Seriously you think that is 33% better? Ignore yards, starting field position, context, expected points improvement and interceptable balls is different to intercepts (Vicks first Eagles year being case in point). You also are arguing that the only influence a QB delivers is a passing TD or an intercept. Now before even going to Ryan's advantage in most per attempt metrics you can't hinge your entire thing when subtracting Ryan's 4 worst games would have him above Brady's ratio. Ryan has a better Qbr, yards per attempt and lots of other metrics. Yes Brady threw less picks and that is really the only stat he wins out on.

Because they finished with a losing record. The players mentioned above are the difference between their teams being in the playoffs and not.

I don't know why David Johnson isn't getting a look-in for MVP honours. 2k+ yards from scrimmage and 20 (!) total touchdowns on an offense that has misfired all year. 15 straight games with over 100 yards rushing + receiving until he got injured in the season finale. Elliott isn't even the best RB in the league!

Matt Ryan also got to play 4 games against the Panthers and Saints. Just between those two teams he put up over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns. Great opportunity to pad your numbers.

Carr, Ryan, Staffirs, Brady, Rodgers That's the order I gave them. Oakland were legless without Carr yesterday, while NE did win 3 without Brady Where was Rodgers the first half of the season?

This will always be the problem with this discussion, so many stats that can be read so many ways, you can almost make a case for or against anyone. I always think of it this way - who would I want playing if my life depended on the result? It's always going to come down to Rogers or Brady at the moment imo. I should disclose I am a diehard Pack fan, so no doubt I am somewhat biased (although I'm trying not to be), but I think Brady benefits a lot from having such a great team around him - Rogers often seems to be taking his men above and beyond what the Packers should be capable of. So in conclusion who knows, but I say A-a Ron

Isn't it? 12 games with 28 touchdowns and 2 picks is a game ratio of 2.33 tds to 0.166 ints compared to say Matt Ryan 38 and 7 in 16 which brings him to 2.37 to 0.44. TDs per game are nearly identical however Brady is throwing less than half as many ints per game which I assume hurt a stat line more than a TD improves it.

Matt Ryan for me - finished off the season with similar stats and didn't have Julio Jones
