I was robbed, says Anthony Mundine

By The Roar / Editor

Anthony Mundine reckons he was robbed after losing his decade-in-the-making rematch with Danny Green on Friday night at Adelaide Oval.

The match was ultimately decided on points with Green the victor, coming as a surprise to many fans who felt that Mundine had been the better performer during the fight.

Mundine, never one to accept the judges’ decision without comment, spoke out after the fight about his belief that he was the real winner.

“I thought I won that fight and it’s 2-0… I deserved it,” said Mundine.

“But history will tell a different story.

“People know in their hearts… they know who was the better man.”

It was certainly seen as a close fight at the least, but one judge believed it swung heavily in favour of Green. The scores from the three judges were 94-94, 96-94 and 98-90.

Few other pundits appear to be agreeing with that 98-90 assessment, and it will no doubt be one of the talking points of the match as it is remembered in years to come.

In a night that had no shortage of controversy, one of the most notable pieces was that the judge scoring 96-94 gave Green a full 10 points in a round where he was to be penalised for elbowing.

In the end, it’s no surprise that Mundine feels he was the more deserving fighter of the two, and perhaps he is right.

No doubt that will remain the opinion of many boxing fans who watched the fight going forward as well.

“What do you do … when you give a performance like that, I had him beat up, I had him bleeding, his eyes were puffy,” Mundine said.

“I still won the fight hands down … they robbed me.

“I know I won it. He (Green) knows I won it. That is what makes it so tough.”

Mundine won his first and only other fight against Green in 2006.

He won from a BS score on a bit of paper mate - end of story. Danny lost, if the piece of paper makes you feel good then shout it from the roof tops.......no one is listening though.

I agree. I was hoping Danny was going to knock him on his arse, but Danny probably only won the first few rounds then it was all Mundine. And the cheap shot at the start was probably more to do with the Refs half arsed approach to getting between them. Dannys illegal elbow blow was more of a cheating offence than Mundine at the the start.

That was the most one-sided round of the fight with Mundine dominating. It was the only round Minn gave Mundine, no round on any card was scored 10-10 so I think that is extremely unlikely. It looks like he just wrote 10 instead of 8. I'm assuming each judge has a personal score card, so they are not influenced by each other, then the cards are consolidated onto one sheet, you can see the handwriting is the same on the sheet above, maybe the error was made transferring the individual cards info to the one page.

Matd I've always been in the Green camp since day 1. I've been looking forward to Green smashing Mundine for 11 years like a lot of others. A few things in my opinion - you can't blame Mundine for the hit in the first round. Look where the ref was and the seconds leading up to the hit.......blame the ref imo. Even after the hit the ref didn't even give Green the allowable 5 min to recover - poor form from the ref again. Green has said himself that he was fully recovered by the end of round one - Green has said that in an interview after the fight so he can't blame the 1st round. Blokes are bagging Mundine because they don't like him, forget your opinion of the bloke and look at the fight. Choc had it all over Green. Even the commentators said towards the end 'be careful what you wish for'.......meaning (for those that didn't watch it), that Choc had it all over Green. Green was like an insect caught in Chocs web, Green was putting a huge amount of work in getting no where, Choc like a spider was watching him get more tired whilst conserving full energy. If it went another round Green would have been knocked out cold. Mundine looked nearly as fresh as he did when he started, Green looked smashed - swollen/tired/uncoordinated/little energy/bleeding/not landing any punches. After seeing Chocs performance before/during/after the event I now have a huge respect for the man Mundine - that bloke has some serious gonads and the heart of a lion.

Nah, why would I waste my time watching a couple over the hill has-beens? This fight was always gonna be a joke, and from what I can tell the ratings were no where near what the first one was - so the rest of Australia clearly had better things to do. I'm just glad Mundine lost and that he's been left whinging that he "woz wobbed" lol. Suck it up princess.

Oh gosh, Chris! Maaaaaaate! I love educating people on boxing history and so on. Ok, it was Green that called Mundine out for 5 years before their first fight. I want you to explain to me how Green fought his entire career at super middleweight up until that fight... which was at super middleweight. Yet, out of them fights, 20 something of them, including THREE world title fights and 1 world title eliminator... He was only "weight drained" for ONE of them? Do see how pathetic that argument is? And how silly you look. TWO super middleweights fought a bout at... SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT that night. Then the guy that spent 5 years saying the other guy was "scared" of him, got embarrassed. So of course, it was only natural that Green spent the next 11 years sobbing and making up lies and excuses. Enter... Fight 2. Where Green - as a cruiserweight - had to fight a light heavyweight that had his last fight at junior middleweight. And still got beaten... I can't wait for your reply!

You 'didn't watch the fight'......pointless post then. The rest of Australia did and most obviously agree that Danny lost. I was in the Green corner, I wanted him to win but he didn't in my eyes. As for the cheap shot, it was unfortunate but it wasn't a cheap shot as many have also said. Watch the fight then comment .

I didn't watch the fight, but the history books will say Green won and if it's true that Mundine punched him in the back of the head whilst he wasn't watching after the refs had separated them, then it's probably fair that Mundine didn't win.

I didn't bother watching the fight, because I wasn't going to support this pointless circus between two has-beens, but I have to say that I'm thrilled the result was that Mundine lost AND thinks he "woz wobbed" lol

For all we know Mundine's manager might have thought of it, now someone just has to work Mundine into agreeing for a rematch. If you can make money out of something ways for it to happen magically appear, like when Collingwood drew the grand final, because the AFL they were the team they could make the most money off.

Only two points Ben, I think going up in weight and not cutting hard is far easier to than stripping huge amounts of weight. Ala what green had to do in 2006 for Mundine to fight him. Green looked emaciated in that first fight and clearly had no energy compared to his other fights. Mundine had a HUGE advantage in 2006 and I think it was only fair there was more of a compromise this time. The first round dog shot is a massive thing to overcome. Green was clearly out of it and couldn't stand up. Just the fact that he went the distance after that shows true courage. Had Green stayed down, no one (or only a Heavily Mundine biased fan) would have begrudged Green winning that fight by DQ in round one.

Yeah nah, sorry BigJ. If you knew anything about professional boxing at a good standard, you would understand 6kgs is a massive advantage. Also taking into it the height advantage too. Any other good professional boxer with that weight advantage would dominate their opponent. That's why they only let it happen with novice professional fights. But you probably wouldn't understand that. You see BigJ... Everyone watched it. Everyone knew Green was 6kg bigger. Everyone watched Green get dominated by - in comparison to himself - a little fella. I would be embarrassed if i fought a guy 6kg lighter than me and spent almost the entire fight back peddling like a coward. ...Everyone knows now BigJ. Everyone has seen Green for the week fraud that he is. Gosh, it's 24hrs later, and you are one of the ONLY 2 people on the planet that thinks Green WON. ...That's a pretty lonely club mate. You're getting extremely desperate now. Even going as far as saying you've somehow lost respect for Mundine. Well, I'll break it to you now. 70% of people watching that fight last night were Green fans who hate Mundine. Yet, they've clearly found a new respect for him. Except you of course. Once again... It must be a lonely club.

Ok I respond, Green won so end of argument. Green look half out of it the whole fight. A six kilo weight advantage is nothing, Mcinnes had that on Copper and coops kicked the crap out of him so whats your point but heavyweights can give alot more than six kilos away. The only reason the crowd clapping Mundine was to say nah nah nah nah oh hell yeah goodbye. and the organsizers purposely played the anthem before the fighters came out to avoid an controversy. Stop using this going up in weight crap to disguse the fact that Mundine could not get the job done against Green. He had to cheapshot him just to square things up. I have lost all respect for Mundine.

See BigJ, you're speaking purely anecdotally here. These are your opinions and assumptions. You're even contradicting yourself. "No one really won that fight. Spilt decision Green or even a draw"... You're confusing yourself. Both fighters were in the dressing room for the anthem. So, i would like you to source a photo showing Green standing proudly, in his dressing room, singing the anthem. Confusing yourself again. If Green was concussed, like you are insinuating. The fight would've been stopped in round 1. Mundine gave Green a 6kg advantage at a weight Mundine had never fought at. Green had the crowd behind him. Green had the general population behind him too... But somehow Mundine's a "coward" according to a keyboard warrior posting 100% falsehoods behind a computer screen. Did you notice the crowd clapping and cheering Mundine as he walked out? Do you want to know why a crowd almost full of Green fans would clap and cheer Mundine?... Because they knew Mundine won. So, after being wrong SIX TIMES in one comment... You should probably stop commenting on this mate.

the weight has got nothing to do with it and u know it. No one really won that fight. Split decision Green or even a draw. Mundine is a coward as he would not stand for the anthem, then he goes and cheap shots Green, then he cant get the job done on a half enabled man, he loses and like the sore loser that he is wouldnt say anything to the crowd as goes and cries like my three year old cause he lost, and to top it off says that he was robbed. that my friend is the actions of a coward.!!!

BigJ... Your comments are comments of a desperate man. Comments of a man that wants to tell anyone that'll listen that Fanny Green ACTUALLY won that fight, and to paint Mundine as something he's not. I find it absolutely hilarious that you can paint Mundine as a "coward"... Considering he came up 13kg to fight a guy that REFUSED to fight him at a fair weight. Stop being such a sad man.
