Simona may have bet on opposition players: reports

Reports tonight that he'll be banned for life.....does anyone else see the conflicted ethics of a league which gleefully inundates its entire coverage with gambling, gambling, gambling, then bans for life a player who gambles? Or, is it just me?

Honestly if they have narrowed it down to bets coming from his account relating to matches that he played in I think thats substantial enough to stop him from playing until the matter is resolved. This is a matter that directly affects the outcome of games not an investigation. Would you have preferred someone like Mullen to keep playing until the B sample came back? Dont forget that back when Ethan Lowe was still a fringe player in 2014 he was suspended for 2 matches for betting activity that occured on his account despite claims it wasnt him.

PatchMan: I hope your right on Tim Simona. I agree with innocent until proven guilty, but also in these circumstances, whilst under investigation, individuals need to stand aside till the investigation is over (whether it be a politician, business leader, professional, board/committee member, umpire, player, etc). It is the honorable action to take. I doubt the NRL and club (or any organisation) would want the scrutiny that such an allegation brings, so I doubt that they would stand a player down or bring it to the media's attention unless the information they received was strong, reliable and could be substantiated, that required a more detailed investigation. I think if Joe Blow went up to a club or the NRL saying "Player X'' did this and that, they would examine the claim, if it could not be substantiated, it would not go any further. If Joe Blow wants to head to the police with the same claims, he better not be wasting their time.

Joe' he's got $$$ He doesn't need to put bets on' especially (Small Bets) He should be classed Innocent until proven guilty! So he should be able to train, & play' until there is 100% fact!

Terence' you're right in what you just wrote! Allegations' allegedly' isn't proof enough! What happened to Innocent until proven guilty?! Tim should be able to play' until he's Been proven guilty! A dumb ass tip off' isn't proof enough to suspend a player! Or else any one of us could tip off a player to the authorities ' we don't like etc'.. As I've said in my past comments' i Know Tim Samona' & he does Great work with Charity'. It is not in his nature to do such a thing'.. So i would be very surprised if it be true in these allegations!

Maybe Simona is a realist and just knew he couldn't defend against Leilua so he got a mate to put a few bucks on for him. Not too bright but nobody said footy players were smart.

That to me is probably one of the most disappointing things about this. Even if it wasn't that last game, a win in any other game during the season would probably have been enough to see them in the 8 and give it a good shake last year. This would be devastating for players and fans of the Tigers to know that one of their own was deliberately causing the team to lose for a bit of money. If true he should be gone from the game for life.
