Rugby league has been blessed with some great rivalries over the years.
Canberra versus Penrith and Broncos versus Dragons in the early 90s, Melbourne and Manly in the ’00s and now Brisbane and Cowboys.
This would have to be the best rivalry not just in the NRL but in Australian sport at the moment. Mundine and Green would a great contender for this title but they only fight once in a decade where the Broncos and Cowboys get to go at each at least twice a year with some of the most thrilling action ever to be seen of a footy field.
Again tonight and over the last two seasons since the grand final in 2015, the game was decided by one point in yet another edge-of-your-seat cliffhanger. The teams constantly change leads and one up each other on the field, making your ticket to the game worth every cent of your hard earned dollars to watch it.
The sides also have some of the best individual players in the game.
With the Anthony Milford and Ben Hunt combo leading the charge for the Broncos and the ever reliable golden boot of Johnathan Thurston for the Cowboys, every time these two teams get together its like watching a grand final, pretty much like the 2015 one – just better.
What’s better is that we get to enjoy it again later in the year, always a perfect way to kick off the season and later enjoy after Origin time.
Is there a better rivalry out there out the moment that could contend with these two teams ever time they hit the paddock? I can’t think of a more anticipated game than when these two play each other, irrespective of whether that is in Brisbane or Townsville.
So what do you think Roarers? Is Broncos versus Cowboys the great rivalry in country at the moment?

Here's a few recent ones.... remember I am a Manly fans but these games stuck in my head because of the contest or never say die attitude of both teams Rnd 26 2014, Roosters 22 Souths 18 (after roosters led 22 - 2 with 15 minutes to go) Rnd 19 2012, Souths 24 Roosters 22 (this was the game where Souths scored two tries in the final twio minutes to snatch the win) Rnd 12012, Roosters 24 Souths 20 (This was the game when Minichello scored from the kick off with 22 seconds remaining, admitteldiy I need help researching this game couldnt remember how long was loft on the clock) For mine (remember the Maroon and White glasses) Rivalries Manly v Sharks (70's) Parra (since 47, at its peek in the 80's), Newcastle (97 GF still gives me nightmares) and Wests (bloodbaths of the 70's and 80's) Cows and Broncs rivalry right up there thouh, I loved this game and it was my first trip to Suncorp too, made it all the more special for me. Happy B'day BigJ, good news pal, you can now play Masters Rugby League with the rest of us old blokes who can't give it up yet. :)

thats what make it so great mate, there is no hatred, why does there have to be hatred for a good rivalry??? Loving two teams is not fence sitting its appreaicting two great clubs giving the best performance on the field. At the end of the day if the crowd and players goes home happy isnt that what the gamwe is all about? The days of being a one team til you die need to be over if they are not already. The hatred of other clubs by fans or players is in the past and need to stay there. The game of rugby leagus is bigger than any club or player and people need to realise this for the game to continue to grow.

I can't give them a rivalry when you see fans getting around in those half half broncos cows jerseys. Or the Brisbane fans that were happy cowboys won in 2015. Fence sitting will never have the pure hatred others have

Your clutching at straws Aaron if you think Morgan doesn't score. Boyd and Milford are constantly trying to milk penalties and the young second rower tried his hand at the academe award drop ball at the end of the game. At least the Ref's didn't fall for that one.

Herman there was less than 10k there. You've been watching too much NRL and the GST they put on the crowd to make it less embarrassing than it actually is..

Guys, I totally get the system and appreciate the nature of a 50/50. My point was that the Broncos thought different, and thus could feel aggrieved. The forward pass is a different matter and should never have been awarded. It's crazy that the video can't pick it up. Because that try was BS.

I don't know if I will survive another Cowboys-Bronocs match like that.

Yeah mate I'm a big fan of the lists keep them coming! Perhaps like a top 5 NRL rivalry and then top ten 'sports' rivalry list.

The was a nice bit of camerawork, just showed the toll the game took on the Cowboys. I think Shaun Fensom, who was there in the Cowboys support area, will get a run next week.
