Reynolds the right fit for Warriors

By Norris Woodbine / Roar Pro

This is episode 16 of Woodbine’s Wisdom, where I discuss a potential move across the ditch for Josh Reynolds.

When I suggested last week, the Warriors could consider a mid-season swap of Reynolds for Tui Lolohea, I opened up considerable debate and also received much personal criticism, with many people believing Lolohea to be a better player.

However, after watching the Bulldogs conquer the Broncos in the wet on Thursday night where Reynolds played sensationally, I am now wondering how such thoughts can be justified.

After an inexplicable error from Jordan Kahu appeared to lift the Bulldogs’ spirits, Reynolds finished off a sweeping move by scoring a try however he could easily have scored four but for the Bunker’s intervention.

He was on the ball throughout the match, tackled everything that moved and his kicking game was also to the fore.

Too many he is a hot headed individualistic type of player who can be somewhat hot and cold in his approach but I believe one thing that would make him a great fit at the Warriors is his attitude once he takes to the field.

He is combative at all times and clearly highly competitive while on the field. Clearly is a magnetic character among the team off it.

Reynolds is clearly the type of player the Warriors are lacking and he would be a great foil for Shaun Johnson, especially if, as rumoured, Kieran Foran isn’t sticking around.

Speaking of Johnson, I had the thought last night that it would be great to see him team up with Anthony Milford at the Broncos where under Wayne Bennett’s coaching and with Benji Marshall as a mentor they would surely form a sensational combination.

He is off contract and if the Warriors are serious, his signature should be their number one priority.

I think the result on the weekend should go part way towards stopping these nonsense articles. Sunday was the first time the spine (1,6,7,9) have played together and they got a victory (even though it wasn't convincing). The Warriors definitely don't need anymore halves. Hingano isn't quite there yet, but, he's getting closer. If Foran stays fit (big IF) their spine is set for this season. Not sure if Lolohea could handle moving to hooker (to cover for an ageing Luke) but, if not, he needs to look elsewhere for his own future. I wouldn't be moving him on if I was in charge of the Warriors but, they don't appear to know what to do with him...

Jacko that is not the point I'm trying to make. Do I agree with every decision my clubs make? No but I'm not going to hand in my membership because I'm not happy bout a certain decision.

A useless hack that's played semi final every year of his career, played in an origin winning team and finished top five and top 10 in the Dally Ms. But look overall I think the idea that Warriors need to race out and sign a half when they have Johnson, Foran, Hingano and Lolohea is daft. They need to fix the centre of the field and the edges before they worry about signing any more halves.

Warriors already have quite a number of players on big contracts not producing anywhere near their previous club form- i.e Luke/RTS- Something happens to many players that go over the ditch for big money. seem to get too comfortable with the slower pace of life and less media focus as after all Rugby is the main game. Cannot see this happening and I suggest he will re-sign with the Dogs - I think the Dogs need a better half back- The rookie went well on Thursday night and should maintain his place I feel.

kingcowboy what he is saying is that Norris and his pathetic obsession with the Warriors has again come up with a pathetic idea of swapping some hasbeen for a potential star and Pilferer thinks( like I do ) that it would be a stupid stupid swap to lose a cheap maybe over a useless hack...Hope you understand

I donot agree that he would be a great swap for the Warriors. You keep Reynolds and lets swap Hasler for Kearney. That would improve the Warriors instantly. Why swap a potential star on stuff-all money for a hack demanding a kings ransom.

Come on.... you can't be serious. This is a ridiculous suggestion that would send the team backwards. The Warriors have two major problems; outside backs, and middle forwards. You'd spend a large sum of money on an area that isn't a problem, and ignore the actual issues with the team? It's the over-capitalizing on the spine that has the Warriors in this place to begin with. Not to mention the Warriors have an amazing prospect at 6 by the name of Ata Hingano coming through - he looks to be one of the best juniors the club has ever produced. He just turned 20, has played a few games in the NRL and will continue as the backup to Foran this year, ready to take the jersey in his own right in 2018. The Warriors would do better spending that money on 2-3 players like Dean Whare, Ava Seumanufagai and Scott Bolton (or some other solid first grader with a high work rate in this slot) - all likely to fit under the same amount of money that Reynolds would ask. Then also go out and get a young rookie winger prospect who isn't close to first grade at his current club - and Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck or Ratu Tuisese type... both of whom are already better than all the wingers (bar Fusitua, who is for some reason playing centre - and perhaps Vatuvei, presuming he is fit to play more than half a season) currently at the club. Why go source a winger? Because the club doesn't have any good ones coming through. Soosemea has stalled, Maumalo shows very little apart from hit-ups (he's a forward sitting on the wing in an attempt to offset the crap/lazy group of middles they have now), Tui doesn't seem interested.

I have been a member for over twenty years and I am not that fickle to say that I would ever stop supporting my team over one player signing. Your choice to be a turncoat!

Notice Josh's Twitter and Instagram addresses: joshreynolds9. That is his future number and in that position with whatever club he goes to (if any) he will be a valued member of the team at something south of the $800k asking price. Thursday night was a sales exhibition.

Really? You are that much of a turncoat fan that you would sell out your team over a player signing. That is so soft!

Lolohea is not at the same level as Reynolds, Lolohea makes alot of mistakes on defence. He, Lolohea, has been stated by the press to have alot of potential and in 2 years we have not seen this potential realise. Would be a great swap for the Warriors but I'll bet Dessie wouldn't have a bar of it. Warriors supporters are just hoping Foran sticks around for a few more years!!!!!
